AIA National Looking for Members' Input on Repositioning at AIANYS Convention

AIA National is sending Jane Kolleeny, AIA's repositioning consultant, to the AIANYS Convention to interview members on behalf of the repositioning project (http://www.aia.org/repositioning). Among the most important initiatives AIA has undertaken in its history, this year-long process will explore the perceptions, beliefs, attitudes, needs, and value of architects to facilitate a comprehensive plan geared towards advancing the position of architects and bolstering the national dialogue about their role in society.

Begun in March 2012, the design and marketing firm Pentagram and the cultural institution and association consultant LaPlaca Cohen have been hired to help with the effort. Their findings will offer a new way to communicate about architecture and the AIA's role within the profession. Once this message is synthesized, the two firms will investigate what communications channels would best serve to disseminate these messages to target audiences. Their findings will be announced at the 2013 AIA Grassroots conference.

Jane will be in Booth #82 in the Product Showcase on Friday, September 28, 2012 all day to interview members and get feedback. She will also be attending various events during convention.

AIANYS Emerging Professionals Committee New Logologo

The AIANYS Emerging Professionals Committee held a competition to design its' new logo. The challenge was to create an original design that fully represents the spirit of emerging professionals in the field of architecture. Any member of AIANYS or NYS architecture students could submit a design. The committee held a conference call to decide the winner.

The winning design is by Aiyesha Amir. She is currently a student at NYIT. This logo will be displayed at the 2012 AIANYS Convention and used in other media. Aiyesha received a complimentary registration to the 2012 AIANYS Convention.

AIA Central NY Receives YAF/COF Emerging Professionals Component Grant

The AIA Central New York Chapter's Emerging Professional's (EP) Development Series has been selected as one of several programs nationwide to receive the 2012 Annual Emerging Professionals Component Grant.  This small grant fund has been established by the AIA National College of Fellows to assist AIA Components in the development of programs which foster the mission of Young Architects and Associate Members.

The EP Development Series is aimed at benefitting the future leaders of our profession by creating a network of resource for Emerging Professionals to access as they seek to develop their careers.  The three part program includes the AIACNY Chapter's IDP and ARE programs interspersed with an Emerging Professionals Lecture Series developed by the Chapter's YAF group.

Following progress through the IDP, members of the Chapter benefit from an ongoing ARE study series with periodic lectures each year that support the topics covered on the Architecture Registration Exam.  The Chapter will receive $2,000 to aid in supporting and further developing the Emerging Professional's Series for the benefit of future members of the Chapter.

2012-2015 IDP Firm Awards Program

The AIA/NCARB Intern Development Program Advisory Committee (IDPAC) is now accepting applications for the 2012- 2015 IDP Firm Awards Program. Since 1991, the IDP Outstanding Firm Awards program has recognized firms who actively embrace the NCARB Intern Development Program (IDP) and demonstrate a commitment to interns by making the path to licensure an integral part of the firm's culture. In 2008, the program expanded to recognize IDP Firms that meet twelve essential criteria in the categories of Mentoring, Supervising, Training Opportunities, Commitment to IDP, and ARE Support.

The IDP Outstanding Firm Award is reserved for firms who meet these essential criteria with excellence in these categories as well as demonstrate an "innovative" effort or outstanding practice in their efforts with the Intern Development Program.
