     Registration for Re-Build New York: MAINSTREETS, the first-ever joint convention between AIA New York State, AIA Rochester, AGC of New York State, ACEC New York, NYS Society of Professional Engineers, NYS Association of Professional Land Surveyors and American Society of Landscape Architects, New York Chapters, is still open! The convention is September 24, 25, 26 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and the Riverside Convention Center in Rochester.  The easiest way to register is online through the AIANYS website www.aianys.org. There is a link right on the homepage on the right side.
     Registration ends on September 16, 2009. No registrations will be accepted after that date (you will have to register onsite at the convention center). Be sure to print out your schedule online and bring it with you to convention as schedules will not be provided at convention.

tours, the product showcase, keynote luncheons, golf tournament and all evening social events is there. AIANYS members will have the opportunity to earn up to 12 LUs/HSWs.     
     The Annual Meeting where AIANYS component delegates will elect the officers will be Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 8:30 AM in the Lilac Ballroom in the Convention Center.
     AIANYS is giving away two full registrations for the 2010 Convention in Buffalo during the MAINSTREETS Convention. Enter to win the raffle by putting your business card in the basket at the Convention Registration Desk in the Convention Center. The winners will be announced at the Saturday Keynote Luncheon.

2009 AIANYS Honor Award Recipients
 
     AIANYS is pleased to announce the 2009 Honor Award recipients. They will all be honored on Friday, September 25 at the Dryden Theater as part of the MAINSTREETS Convention.

Venesa Alicea, Assoc. AIA, LEED AP and Shanntina Moore, Assoc. AIA, LEED AP will receive the Intern/Associate Award.
Richard Baer and Heidi N. Zimmer-Meyer, will receive the Honorary Member of AIA New York State Award.
Pei Cobb Freed + Partners Architects will receive the Firm Award.
ACES2 House-Architects Collaborating with Engineers for Shelter (a collaboration between AIA Rochester, ACEC Rochester and The Flower City Habitat for Humanity) will receive the Community Development Award.

     The AIANYS Honor Awards program was instituted to provide appropriate recognition to individuals who have influenced the profession of architecture in New York State. These awards reflect notable contributions, outstanding service, or specific actions taken by architects, legislators, or organizations who demonstrate a pattern worthy of distinction.

2009 AIANYS Student Award Recipients
 
     The AIANYS Student Awards were established in 2007 in order to enrich and reinforce design exploration among students; to establish a stronger relationship between the profession and the academy; and to celebrate, nurture, and recognize the future leadership of our profession and society. The awards will be given out on Friday, September 25, 2009 at the Dryden Theater as part of the MAINSTREETS Convention.

Governor Paterson Signs Two Bills Into Law
 
     Governor Paterson recently signed two bills into law. The first is A8219 (Glick) Office of Professions Licensure, which authorizes the commissioner of education to impose a 15% surcharge on any professional fee imposed that is subject to deposit in the office of professions account. AIANYS supports this as the goal is to increase the Department's ability to curtail illegal practice.
     The second signed into law is A7967 (Hoyt) which establishes the New York Main Street program to provide financial and technical assistance to help communities preserve and revitalize downtown business districts. 
Renewable Energy Seminars Offered This Fall
 
     The Mohawk Valley Community College and Morrisville State College, with assistance from the Oneida County Workforce Investment Board, are sponsoring three renewable energy seminars this fall.  The first, Fundamentals of Solar Thermal Systems, will be held Friday, September 25, 2009 and a Solar Thermal Systems Laboratory will be held Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Morrisville State College. Advanced Solar Thermal Design will be held on Friday, October 23, 2009 at Mohawk Valley Community College. Geothermal Heat Pump System Designs will be held Friday, November 13, 2009 at Morrisville State College. PDHs for engineers can be earned by attending these programs. 2010 School Building Expo in Chicago Looking for Presenters
 
     The 2010 School Building Expo is looking for presenters for the conference
May 10-13, 2010 at Navy Pier in Chicago. The deadline for submission is November 18, 2009.
     The 2010 School Building Expo will offer over 15 concurrent sessions that highlight the top professionals that are shaping the future of education design, build and construction. The sessions should focus on furthering the knowledge of professionals associated with education and educational facilities.

Educational and Energy Efficiency Trade Expo
 
    The Educational and Energy Efficiency Trade Expo presented by Master Plumbers Council (MPC), National Grid and Con Edison will be held at Russo's On the Bay, 162-45 Crossbay Blvd, Howard Beach, NY on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 from 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Advance registration by September 23, 2009 is required. Space fills quickly! 
     For more information, go to www.nycmpc.org. This event includes: exhibitor trade show with hors d'oeuvre and beverage reception, educational workshops, dinner buffet, and time for networking. MPC Members attend for free! For non-members, the cost is $25 per person.
