AIANYS Executive Director Appointed to Housing, Planning and Zoning Initiative Advisory Work Group Edward C. Farrell, Executive Director, AIANYS, has been invited by the Secretary of State and the Director of the Office for the Aging to sit on a Work Group to develop recommendations and advance the goals of Governor Paterson's "Housing, Planning and Zoning Initiative." The purpose of this initiative is to help municipalities better plan for the housing and community needs of the State's older people, younger people with disabilities, families and caregivers.
There will be five work groups: housing options; housing development, financing, taxes; livable communities, universal (life cycle) design; green buildings (integrative design), energy efficiency-planning; and land use, transportation and mobility. The work groups will include representatives from State agencies, the aging and disability communities, consumers, legislators, and community leaders. Members of all work groups will review the final draft prior to its submission to the governor and legislature. There may also be some hearings planned around the state. Ultimately, a technical assistance tool kit will be developed for municipalities.
"I am honored to have been chosen to participate in this important undertaking proposed by Governor Paterson. I look forward to working toward meeting the goals of the housing, planning and zoning initiative," said Farrell.
