AIANYS 2008 Honor Awards

The AIANYS Honor Awards program was instituted to provide appropriate recognition to individuals who have influenced the profession of architecture in New York State. These awards reflect notable contributions, outstanding service, or specific actions taken by architects, legislators, or organizations who demonstrate a pattern worthy of distinction.  Specific awards recognize outstanding contributions to the profession in education, industry or government. Below are several testimonials of past award recipients.

"Receiving an AIANYS honor award implies several things. First, being nominated by your chapter underscores that they trust in your leadership by example. Secondly, being recognized by AIA New York State places you among others who have been positive influences on the architectural profession over the course of time. The subsequent acknowledgment from your peers validates what you strive to achieve on behalf of the profession," said Stu Chait, AIA, co-recipient of the 2007 Matthew W. Del Gaudio Service Award.

"It was truly an honor and a rather humbling experience to be recognized by my peers," said Peter J. Arsenault, AIA, 2007 co-recipient of the Matthew W. Del Gaudio Service Award. "I was especially honored to receive the Del Gaudio award which honors service to the profession. Over the years, I have definitely experienced that the more you put into serving our profession, the more you receive back in professional growth. And, I must say, one of the most pleasant surprises was how many colleagues and friends on the local, state and national level heard about and acknowledged my receipt of this award."

Receiving an honor award is one of the best ways to acknowledge a member of AIANYS for their hard work and dedication to the profession. Members of the AIANYS Board of Directors or an AIANYS component may nominate eligible individuals per the AIANYS Award description.  A description of each of the awards and the submission template is on the AIANYS website www.aianys.org.
All nominations must be received at AIANYS by the close of business (5:00 PM) on June 19, 2008 and sent to AIANYS, 52 South Pearl Street, Third Floor, Albany, NY 12207.

The 2008 AIANYS Honor Awards will be presented during the convention at the Opening Keynote Luncheon on Thursday, September 25 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in White Plains.

"Assemblyman Hoyt has supported issues important to architects and the entire design community for many years. We appreciate all of his efforts and his commitment to smart growth and historic preservation. Furthermore, it is appropriate that he receive the award in a setting such as this," said Kelly Hayes McAlonie, AIA.

"AIANYS is proud to recognize Assemblyman Hoyt as the Legislator of the Year. He has supported legislation that has advanced the built environment in New York State and remains committed to principles which are embraced by the architectural community. He deserves to receive this award," said Edward C. Farrell.

"I am delighted to have my work recognized by the AIANYS through this award. Historic preservation is one of my most important priorities.  Our region, and specifically my district, is blessed to have many internationally recognized architectural treasures and historic structures. Throughout my career, I have made it a priority to ensure that state funds are directed towards preserving our architectural treasures," said Assemblyman Sam Hoyt.
