Turfway Park's Vinery Racing Spiral Stakes to benefit KY Race Track Chaplaincy The Kentucky Race Track Chaplaincy, a RTCA affiliated council, was selected as a charity to benefit from the track's banner springtime race, the Vinery Racing Spiral Stakes, that took place on March 24 in Florence, Ky. The KRTC oversees chaplaincy programs at Turfway, Ellis Park, and Churchill Downs, and employs five full-time chaplains. A check for $1,000 (from Vinery and Turfway) was presented in the Winner's Circle following the race named for KRTC. During Turfway's biggest day of racing, KRTC also had a display and received donations on-site. For more information about the Kentucky Race Track Chaplaincy, go to www.kychaplaincy.org or contact RTCA's National Service Center at (859) 410-7822. |

Chaplain Sam Spence and Founder Salty Roberts were the featured speakers at the 40th Anniversary Celebration. Award-winning musical group "Branded," which has defined the genre of Christian Country, headlined the celebration.
Incoming executive director Craig Wiley's inspirational message at the Sunday Family Banquet was titled, "Entering the Promised Land," foreshadowing the future of racetrack chaplaincy.

"Forty years is Biblical," said Ch. John Shumaker. It was forty years the Israelites wandered in the wilderness before God delivered them across the Jordan River and into the Promised Land.
At its annual business meeting, RTCA elected its 2012 board of directors, including president Gary Cartwright, vice president Ch. John Shumaker, treasurer David Foley, and secretary Ch. Michael Bingaman, as well as representatives Karen Chavez, Amy Shumaker, Patsy Payne, and Ch. Eddie Meza.

RTCA commemorates 40th Anniversary Medallion and institutes 40th Anniversary Society
 | Paul Ransdell (left) presents RTCA president Gary Cartwright with a certificate commemorating the 40th Anniversary Medallion |
The Race Track Chaplaincy of America recently commemorated a 40th Anniversary Medallion, the premiere symbol of the donor recognition program for which the medallion is named. "It's more than just a nice keepsake," said RTCA development director Paul Ransdell. "It's a symbol of 40 years of impactful ministry, and the hope of 40 better years yet to come." The Medallion's face bears the anniversary logo, and on its back is a Bible verse, Deuteronomy 2:7 "The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything" (TNIV). Supporters giving $1,000 or more will become members of the prestigious 40th Anniversary Society, and will receive their own Medallion and a framed copy of the commemorating certificate. In 2011, RTCA received 72 gifts of $1,000 or greater. According to Ransdell, its goal for 2012 is 150 gifts at that level, or 150 members of the 40th Anniversary Society. For information about the Medallion or the 40th Anniversary Society, go to www.rtcanational.org/giving, or contact the National Service Center at (859) 410-7822. |
