Happy Good Friday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NATURAL GIRLS ROCK!!! Thanks to you all, the Natural Girls Rock Movement is expanding at a very rapid pace! The NGR Team has a lot of things going on. Sooo, we are going to mix things up a bit. For those of you that don't like change, hold on a minute, and let's talk about this! I think this is something you'll like. Natural Girls Rock will be hosting several guest bloggers on our Face Book Fan Page and on our website. Most of the articles will NOT be surrounded by the "hair element" but rather, around real life circumstances and situations.

So, without further yadda yadda's, in this newsletter, I would like to introduce you to the first guest blogger, Nina Mosley. She is very opinionated and has several "hot topics" she'll be discussing in the coming weeks. The first topic was posted on Facebook less than 24 hours ago and sparked some great dialogue. Feel free to comment on the NGR website or on the Face Book Fan Page. Click here to check it out.

My message to YOU this month is....I think blogs in general are a great, healthy and fun way to learn and to grow in different areas of our lives. As people chime in, it allows unbiased and candid opinions on a myriad of topics that you may not hear from your "girlfriends" during face to face conversations. Plus, it offers great interaction and expands the growing sisterhood!

"Is Bad Grammar a Valid Reason to End a Relationship?"

Article by Guest Blogger: Nina Mosley

I've been dating a nice guy for several months. He's a good ole southern (let me keep it real with y'all) country guy. He's polite, respectful and kind, but it hurts my ears to him speak and hurts my eyes to read his text messages. I'm also from the south and can be country at times. I can even be ghetto when provoked and can curse like a sailor when necessary. My Dad however was in the military so we traveled a bit when I was younger. I can lose my accent when and if necessary. Although I was born in the Deep South and grew up in the Bible belt I speak and write fairly well. I can hardly claim to be an English professor but I'm nice with a pen and pad, and my small talk is on point when it needs to be, which is why my man's country grammar pains me to no end. I am the queen of run on sentences and could win an award for how many words I cram into a single breathe at one time. I have been known to dangle a participle and splice a comma a time or two, but before I hit send I double check my messages to make sure they are at least coherent. I consider my verbal skills to be a reflection and extension of me. Am I the only chick who does that?

In this day and age when my multi-tasking skills could practically qualify as an official Olympic sport I admit I prefer to text way more than talk. I text while I'm sitting under the hair dryer, when I'm ironing clothes, and even when I'm cooking. It's nothing for me to pick up my phone and shoot out a quick message and come back a few minutes later to read the response and hit reply. Now, before you chatty Cathy's condemn me and put me on blast for sacrificing that which separates us from other animals that walk up right and have opposable thumbs, hear me out. I do still make time for idle chit-chat. I just don't do it as often as I did before AT&T offered an unlimited texting plan. I enjoy a lively conversation as much as the next girl, but when I'm pressed for time or have several other things to do at the same time, texting is my preferred method of communication, which is why I need my man's thumb love game to be on point. By definition Thumb Love is texting with your "Boo Thang"/Sweetheart. There is nothing I enjoy more than trading short witty messages back and forth throughout the day with someone I'm digging. That communication usually keeps me interested and stimulated. It keeps me on his mind and him on mine during the course of our busy day. But when I need a hand book or pocket translator to figure out what my man is saying it kills the moment. I'm not talking about the occasional typo or auto-correct error. I'm talking about a full blown....WHAT THE HECK message in which I can not.....for the life of me..... understand what he was trying to say.

My annoyance with his communication skills has left me wondering if am I being petty, shallow, or just plain immature and insensitive or is it a valid complaint? So ladies, please weigh in, and give me your thoughts....

Is it wrong to dump a guy because his country grammar or hip hop slang baffles and annoys you? Is it a deal breaker or minor in the scheme of things? I'd love to hear your thoughts.....xoxo
