Jim Quirk begins term as EBAA Accreditation Board Chairman

July 1 marked the start of Eye Bank President Jim Quirk's appointment as Co-Chairman of the Accreditation Board for the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA). The term will last two years and the duties include working with other eye bank leaders and staff to align the accreditation board with the goals set forth by the EBAA.

To be an accredited eye bank under EBAA standards, an eye bank must submit to review by the Accreditation Board. The Accreditation Board is a team of professionals who develop the criteria for and conduct inspections of eye banks across the country to ensure adherence to medical standards. The appointment is an exciting opportunity to connect with eye banks across the country and continue the Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley's national presence and leadership.

Board Member Spotlight:Marion Goldberg

Secretary/Treasurer
PCS Marion Goldberg

PCS Marion Goldberg has been a trustee of the Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley since 2004 and has served as secretary and treasurer for the past two years. After going back to school at age 32, Marion received her BS degree from Fairleigh Dickenson University in January 1979. She has worked for several accountants and has also owned several businesses. She eventually owned her own accounting firm for seven years before retiring to Hawaii.

Marion was simultaneously a Lioness in New Jersey and Lion in Hawaii during the period when LCI was changing over to all Lions. She has been in Lionism since 1983 and is proud to have brought over 50 members into Lionism. As a Lion, Marion was the District Secretary for the first woman District Governor in New Jersey - Mary Devon O'Brien. She is a Melvin Jones Progressive and a Gene Polgar Progressive Fellow as well.

For more than ten years Marion was the State Chairperson in New Jersey for Hearing and Speech and developed programs for hearing assistance and recycling of hearing aids. She was also Chairperson of the first NJ State Approved Projects Review Committee, set up by the Council of Governors to review the needs of State projects  and determine who should receive Lions Clubs donations.  She has received numerous Lions Certificates of Appreciation and other awards from International, State and District Levels.  She has received a Humanitarian of the Year Award from the NJ State Council of Columbiettes (the auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus).

Marion is  involved in  gardening, and has worked on her community beautification committee.  As a Master Gardener, she assists in  running a greenhouse in Ocean County Park.  She also spent numerous years with Pet Therapy  International, in its early developmental stages, with her dog "Chelsea" . She has traveled to nursing homes and hospitals in three states with her pet.  Marion and Chelsea spent thousands of hours giving comfort to sick people and children. Besides all this she is a good cook, is skillfull at a computer (and still learning!) and travels well with other Lions.

Marion says the most rewarding part of working with the eye bank is "to be able to be a part of the force that helps to have this organization continually growing.  Not only has it grown in financial stability from years past, but it has become a leader in its field.  I have been a humble part of that."

T.D. Bank and Eye Bank Partnership

The Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley and T.D. Bank have started a new partnership called the Affinity Program. It is an easy way for the eye bank to fundraise, so if you are a new or current T.D. Bank customer, you can be a part of it too.

Simply go to your local T.D. branch and give them our affinity code: A3648When you link your account, NO personal information is given to the eye bank and the program is FREE! The more people who participate in the Affinity Program and link to LEBDV, the more money T.D. Bank donates to our organization.

You can link checking, savings and business accounts. Help T.D. Bank help the eye bank and bring the affinity code to your nearest branch today!
