Board Member Spotlight:Marion Goldberg

PCS Marion Goldberg has been a trustee of the Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley since 2004 and has served as secretary and treasurer for the past two years. After going back to school at age 32, Marion received her BS degree from Fairleigh Dickenson University in January 1979. She has worked for several accountants and has also owned several businesses.She eventually owned her own accounting firm for seven years before retiring to Hawaii.
Marion was simultaneously a Lioness in New Jersey and Lion in Hawaii during the period when LCI was changing over to all Lions. She has been in Lionism since 1983 and is proud to have brought over 50 members into Lionism. As a Lion, Marion was the District Secretary for the first woman District Governor in New Jersey - Mary Devon O'Brien. She is a Melvin Jones Progressive and a Gene Polgar Progressive Fellow as well.
For more than ten years Marion was the State Chairperson in New Jersey for Hearing and Speech and developed programs for hearing assistance and recycling of hearing aids. She was also Chairperson of the first NJ State Approved Projects Review Committee, set up by the Council of Governors to review the needs of State projects and determine who should receive Lions Clubs donations. She has received numerous Lions Certificates of Appreciation and other awards from International, State and District Levels. She has received a Humanitarian of the Year Award from the NJ State Council of Columbiettes (the auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus).
Marion is involved in gardening, and has worked on her community beautification committee. As a Master Gardener, she assists in running a greenhouse in Ocean County Park. She also spent numerous years with Pet Therapy International, in its early developmental stages, with her dog "Chelsea" . She has traveled to nursing homes and hospitals in three states with her pet. Marion and Chelsea spent thousands of hours giving comfort to sick people and children. Besides all this she is a good cook, is skillfull at a computer (and still learning!) and travels well with other Lions.
Marion says the most rewarding part of working with the eye bank is "to be able to be a part of the force that helps to have this organization continually growing. Not only has it grown in financial stability from years past, but it has become a leader in its field. I have been a humble part of that."
