Facebook Supports Donation Registration!

As you may have heard, Facebook has updated its system to allow users to register to be organ, eye and tissue donors. The initiative comes from a partnership with Donate Life America and the unveiling of the program has spiked national attention to organ, eye and tissue donation with stories being featured on Good Morning America, ABC World News Tonight, Nightline and in major newspapers.

To register, simply log on to Facebook and go to the Donate Life America page. Click the "Register Now" button and follow the easy steps. Facebook will not receive any of your personal information that you enter through the Donate Life America site. When you are finished, you can add the DONOR button to your own Facebook profile to show you are a registered donor and encourage your friends to do the same.

Board Member Spotlight: Mark Green

Trustee Mark Green

Trustee Mark Green has been an active Lion for seven years and started his involvement with the Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley in 2010. Mark grew up in Limerick, PA. He graduated from Springford High School and completed the I.B.E.W. apprenticeship program.

He is now the Senior Methods Specialist at PECO Energy and enjoys spending his time with his wife and two children. PECO employees are given the opportunity to participate in their Excelon Personal Volunteer Program. Employees log hours they volunteer with nonprofit organizations. After reaching 25 hours, they are able to win a $250 grant for the nonprofit. The grant can be given up to two times a year to a nonprofit, and we are very fortunate Lion Mark selected the eye bank.

"When I first became involved in the eye bank, I was impressed at how well the organization was run and how dedicated the staff and trustees were to the cause." Said Lion Mark. He is both a Melvin Jones Fellow and a PID Gene Polgar Progressive Fellow, has served as Vice District Governor for 14-P and secretary for Pottstown-Stowe Lions Club and he will begin his term as 3rd Vice Chairman on the eye bank's Board of Trustees in July.

Biker by Day, Recovery Tech by Night

Wendy has worked at the Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley for three years as the recovery technician for the night shift. When not recovering corneal tissue, Wendy loves to ride around the rural parts of New Jersey on her 1993 Harley Motorcycle. She became interested in motorcycles and started riding by herself in 2006. Along with gardening, she says riding is one of the best stress relievers for her hectic life.

Working the night shift, she often feels like she flies half way around the world twice a week so having something like riding is a great outlet, but she always tries to maximize safety and prefers riding where there are less people and more rural roads. She bought her Harley from her best friend who recently passed away, so the bike also holds sentimental value to her.

Wendy says her favorite part of working at the eye bank is knowing there is a recipient who is going to have their life changed in such a positive way. Wendy also hopes that donor families can find peace through knowing their loved ones gift could heal another person.
