Student of the Month Donates to LEBDV

Each month, the New Castle Hundred Lions Club features a student of the month from their local high school, William Penn Senior High School. Lars Jensen was recognized in March and he is eligible to apply for the $1,000 scholarship sponsored by New Castle Hundred at the end of the year.

During their 50/50 raffle, a Lion won the prize of $18 and decided to give it to Lars. Lars, however, was moved by PID Gene Polgar's presentation about the Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley, and gave his winnings as a donation to the eye bank.

The Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley recognizes the New Castle Hundred Lions Club of Distinct 22D for their continuous support of our efforts. The club will celebrate their eleventh Polgar Fellow in May and every member of their club is a Life Member of the Eye Bank, which means they contributed $100 per member.

Eye Bank President Jim Quirk gave a

presentation on eye

banking at the Roxana Cannon-Arsht Surgicenter, part of the Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington, Delaware.

The presentation focused on the mission and efforts of the Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley and was followed by a questions and answer session.

Betty Mitchell, who coordinated the presentation, said

"there was a multitude of positive comments regarding his presentation. I actually had staff come up to me to express their appreciation for him taking the time to speak with us and state they had broadened their knowledge base regarding corneal transplantation."
