Pennsylvania Eye Banks Recognized in the Congressional Record
As we reported last month, March is National Eye Bank month. On March 1, 2012, US Congressman Joseph Pitts (R-PA) entered a proclamation into the Congressional Record declaring March 2012 as National Eye Donor Month. Representative Pitts not only highlighted Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley's recent technology upgrade to better provide the highest quality ocular tissue possible but, all Pennsylvania Eye Banks had their good works made a part of the Congressional record. Historic Record Set
January 2012 set a record number of 105 locally procured tissue transplants. Kudos to our great recovery team for their diligence and commitment to serve individuals and families throughout the Delaware Valley and beyond. The story would be incomplete without also recognizing highly skilled ophthalmologists and their respective clinical and office personnel who are compassionate and care deeply for their patients. And, of course, this all begins with the benevolence of donors and their families without whom these 105 miracles of sight would not be possible; they are truly heroes.

AAO's Museum of Vision Recognizes Presidents' Day 2012 with a Look into the Eye Sight Challenges of U.S. Presidents
In honor of Presidents' Day, the American Academy of Ophthalmolgy's (AAO) Museum of Vision highlighted the eye challenges of U.S. Presidents. Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the U.S., had strabismus, also known as a lazy eye. Lincoln's left eye tended to roll upward and was slightly higher in his head than his right eye. For Theodore Roosevelt, ophthalmology historians say a blow to the head may have resulted in a detached retina, which caused partial blindness.
