Grant Updates

School Improvement Grant: VCS has been awarded the SIG grant for the second year. Teachers will continue to focus on increasing student achievement in reading and mathematics.
Race to the Top: VCS is in year 3 of this federal grant. The Transformation Team has evolved into the Building Leadership Team (BLT). This team will focus on preparing teachers for the new Ohio Teacher Evaluation System, using data to improve instruction, aligning lessons to the new common core state standards and developing student growth measures in all subjects and grades.

Welcome back! Though it is still technically summer for a few more weeks, I already have fall on my mind! The change in seasons brings two of my favorite things; the start of a new school year and Ohio State Buckeye football! The Buckeye's began their season last weekend and the VCS Wolf Pack will begin our new school year next week!
Remember, the first day of school is this Monday, September 10, so make sure you log in! You'll get to see the new classroom design and everyone who logs in on Monday will be entered to win a really cool prize! You can learn more about these below.
Since the start of school was pushed back, we also had to make other changes to the school calendar. Graduation will still stay the same May 18, but many other important dates have changed. Make sure to download and save the updated school calendar by clicking here.

Log in on Sept. 10 for a chance to win an iPod touch or Kindle Fire!

All students who log in to their classes on Monday, September 10 are eligible to win either an Apple iPod touch (8GB) or Kindle Fire. (Winner's choice!)
You can log-in from any computer or mobile device! If you have not yet received your VCS computer, no worries! Visit a local library, borrow a friend's computer or even use your cell phone or other mobile device!
The winner will be announced Thursday, September 13 in your teacher's audio announcement. If you have trouble logging in, please contact the VCS Help Desk at 866-501-9473 ext. 5124.

| VCS classrooms redesigned with you in mind! |
When you log in to your classes on the first day of school, you will notice a change in the design. We have updated the LMS over the summer to make our classrooms easier to navigate. We have eliminated much of the time-consuming clicking and scrolling, added a navigation bar across the top and standardized the course design to make all courses more uniform across the board. We think are you going to love the new look! Watch the video below for a walk-through tutorial of the new design.

| You're invited to the VCS Fall picnic |
 Mark your calendars for Sept. 29!
The VCS Fall Picnic will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hoover Y Park, near Columbus. Connect and socialize with your fellow classmates and teachers and enjoy the beautiful fall weather. Lunch will be provided, as well as activities for all members of the family! And back by popular demand, the Parent Advisory Council is conducting a prize basket raffle! The picnic will take place rain or shine.

Join us for a back-to-school orientation session!

Whether you are new, or just need a refresher, the VCS Help Desk will offer live, orientation sessions during the first week of school. Learn how to navigate the LMS, upload documents, check your grades and much more! All orientation sessions will be held in the Help Desk Elluminate classroom. You can find the schedule below.

3 iPad's, 3 ways to win!
|
 Have you always wanted an iPad? Here's your chance! We are giving away three iPads with three different ways to win!
1. "Like" the VCS Facebook page and then "like" our contest photo and you will be entered in a raffle to win an iPad.
2. Refer a student to VCS. All referrals will be entered in a second raffle to win an iPad.
3. The person who refers the most students to VCS, will automatically win an iPad.

Find VCS Success at COSI
|
 You're invited! The Success Site at COSI serves elementary, junior high and high school students and is open Wednesday - Friday. Beginning September 12, Elementary students may attend 9:00 a.m. till 12 Noon. Junior High and High School students may attend 1:00 p.m. till 4:00. Snacks are provided for each session. Just for you--we've arranged for gas cards, COTA transportation, and free parking. Parents are welcome to attend with their student. We will meet you at the front door of COSI to let you in the first two weeks as COSI is closed for cleaning through September 25. We are located on the Mezzanine Floor in Exploration Space East.
This year, Reading Specialist Stacey Whittaker will be available for students. Additionally, we welcome Ms. Jennie Taylor and Ms. Nancy Thompson who will be tutoring at COSI one day a week. Beyond the tutoring service, the Success Site works with students to help them organize time, improve study and test taking skills. We also schedule field trips!!! This is your invitation to experience success as a VCS student! Feel free to RSVP to Mrs. Teresa Walton at 937-206-6241.

Parents... you can join the PAC, too!
|
 Members of the Parent Advisory Council (P.A.C.) have an active voice within the school. Parents, grandparents and guardians are encouraged to get involved! P.A.C. members attend four meetings throughout the year, participate in the fall and spring picnics, offer feedback regarding the Family Involvement Policy and the School-Family Compact, and more. It's a great way to meet other VCS families and support the school.
If you would like to learn more about the PAC, please visit us at the registration table at the fall picnic on September 29! You can also attend our next meeting on Tuesday, October 30. Questions?
