Race to the Top News

The Building Leadership Team is very excited to start another school year. They have many projects to work on this year including the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES), identifying other student growth measures, continuing the resident educator program and implementing teacher based teams. We will keep you all update on their progress for the 2012-2013 school year.

Greetings!

Jim McCord

Happy August! I cannot believe how fast the summer has flown by. We have been working hard over the last few months, making VCS better than ever!

We doubled our summer school enrollment, redesigned the VCS classrooms and started working on a technology plan to update our students with the latest technologies!

The most important change is in the start of school. You will now begin your classes on Monday, September 10. You can read all about these exciting changes below. Enjoy your extended summer break and we look forward to talking with you soon!

IMPORTANT: Change in the start date of school!

acer-laptop This year, VCS will implement many exciting changes. We are currently redesigning the VCS classrooms. You're going to LOVE the new look! (You can also read more about this below).

We're also very excited to announce that during the 2012-2013 school year, we have a plan to get new laptops to all of our students. This will allow you to be a more mobile learner with the newest technology.

In order to implement these changes most efficiently for you, we will be moving the start of school to September 10.

Some of you may be contacted by your local school if their start date is earlier than our September 10 start date. If you need a Letter of Enrollment to give to your local school, please contact our office at 1-866-501-9473. For High School students, use extension 2002; for K-8 students, use extension 2011.

VCS classrooms will get new design

My Courses(2) When you log in to your classes on the first day of school, you may notice a change in the design. We have updated the LMS over the summer to make our classrooms easier to navigate. We have eliminated much of the time-consuming clicking and scrolling, added a navigation bar across the top and standardized the course design to make all courses more uniform across the board. We think are you going to love the new look. Make sure you log in on the first day, September 10, to see the new design!

Join us for a back-to-school orientation session!

Whether you are new, or just need a refresher, the VCS Help Desk will offer live, orientation sessions during the first week of school. Learn how to navigate the LMS, upload documents, check your grades and much more! All orientation sessions will be held in the Help Desk Elluminate classroom. Summer school numbers hit record high

This summer, more than 800 students took advantage of VCS summer school, enrolling in almost 1,200 courses. These are our highest numbers yet, doubling since last year! What do students have to say about online summer school? Find out below!

"I would recommend VCS because the district credit recovery classes fall during a certain time period and you can't miss more than three classes which makes it difficult to go on a vacation or go to a camp. VCS let me work from home and at my own pace."

"Loved it! Well worth the time."

"Summer school was good for getting a class out of the way, so I have more time during the year. Will help me to be better prepared."

"This class was great. I now have an opening in my regular schedule since I don't have to take health now. I'm considering taking more classes in the future."

"My son loved taking classes this way. I am thinking about enrolling him full time."

FREE college credit available to VCS students

With our online dual credit partnership with Kent State University, students can earn high school and college credit simultaneously. With over 30 courses offered, students can earn two years of college credit before even graduating from high school! Click here  to download the brochure for complete course listings and requirements. The deadline for fall enrollment is August 10.
