The transformation team met on March 8 at the VCS office. The team split into groups and reviewed the iNACOL standards.
Education consultant, Bruce Friend will be visiting the VCS office next Monday and Tuesday. He will be working with the Building Leadership Team to develop the instructional model and the teacher handbook.

I hope everyone enjoyed their spring break! I know I did. I was able to get away for a few days and visit sunny Orlando, Florida with my family. Spring is such a wonderful time of the year. If you haven't already done so, you can RSVP for the VCS spring picnic below.
We are finally in the home stretch for the 2011-2012 school year, with just about a month left. Our last day of school is May 8. Keep working hard until the very end and finish strong! We look forward to having you back next year.

| High school scheduling opens April 23 |
All returning high school students can begin scheduling classes for the 2012-2013 school year beginning Monday, April 23. Online class registration will remain open until the end of school on May 8.
Incoming freshmen will be registered for classes automatically. Be on the lookout for upcoming orientation sessions.
For questions about scheduling, you can contact the guidance department or call 866-501-9473 ext. 2007.

Ohio Achievement Assessment Reminder
|
All students in grades 3-8 are required to take the Ohio Achievement Assessment. This year, testing will take place April 23-25. You should have received communication indicating your testing location.
To view your testing location and for maps and directions, students can log in to the 'current students' section of the new website by clicking here. Use your LMS username and password to access this information. Once logged in, select 'testing locations' to access your testing site.

4th grade class puts on play in Elluminate
|
Mrs. Stepp's 4th grade class recently put on a play in Elluminate. The play is titled "Welcome to Chinatown." The students did an excellent job! You can watch their play by clicking here.

| VCS introduces first iPhone and iPad app |
VCS recently released our first iPhone and iPad app for students and families! Users can sign-in with their LMS username and password and access important information such as attendance, grades and teacher contact information and office hours. The app is free to download and is available through the iTunes App Store. For more information, click here. Download your FREE VCS app today and let us know what you think! | Join us for Family Literacy Night at COSI! |
You're invited to Family Literacy Night at COSI on April 19th! Students in grades K-8 will participate in reading, spelling and logic games and activities for a chance to win prizes! The Columbus Metropolitan Library Bookmobile will be on site, as well as a visit from a local librarian! The event is free to attend and pizza and drinks will be provided.

| Celebrate spring with VCS at the spring picnic |

The picnic will take place on April 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hoover Y Park, near Columbus. Connect and socialize with your fellow classmates and teachers and enjoy the beautiful spring weather. Lunch will be provided, as well as activities for all members of the family! And back by popular demand, the Parent Advisory Council is conducting a prize basket raffle! The picnic will take place rain or shine.

| The results are in... |

Last month, VCS students competed with students from all over the globe in the World Education Games, and the results are now in! The top class performances went to
Mrs. Akers' and Mrs. Sheridan's classes. Every student from each class will win a free, 6-month membership to Mathletics and Spellodrome.
The top 3 VCS overall performers for the games are as follows:
- Lakeeta Barringer, grade 8
- Luther Lane, grade 6
- Oways Abdur-Rahman, kindergarten
Each of the top 3 performers will receive a medal in the mail from VCS. During the games, nearly 40,000 questions were answered by VCS students. Congratulations to all!

| Mrs. Linik receives Cooperating Teacher of the Year award |
VCS Spanish teacher, Mrs. Gabriela Linik was recently chosen as the winner of this year's Outstanding Cooperating Teacher award by the Ohio Association of Teacher Educators! She was nominated by Ellen Hill of Miami University. Mrs. Linik hosted Miami University student teacher Carmela Nuksy during the first semester of the 2011-2012 school year. She was honored at an awards dinner on March 22 at the Dublin Crowne Plaza. Congratulations, Mrs. Linik!

| March Math Madness draws a large crowd |
On March 9th, students, parents and teachers gathered at COSI for March Math Madness. More than 75 students and family members were in attendance. Students participated in carnival-style math games and were even treated with a special visit from "Sir Cumference" at the end of the evening! Students that completed 10 or more math activities were entered into a drawing to win a Fort Rapids Indoor Waterpark prize pack. Smaller drawings were announced throughout the evening totaling almost $600 in prizes! A big thank you to Denny Hammond for organizing a great event and to all of the faculty volunteers. Name: Levi Lease
Grade: 12 From: St. Louisville
What is your favorite thing about VCS? My favorite thing about VCS is that I can do my work at my pace. And if I don't understand something, I can take the time to really understand it and build my knowledge.
What is your favorite subject? My favorite subject is English.
What is your plan for after graduation? My plan for after graduation is to peruse taxidermy, both the schooling and an internship.
What do you like to do in your free time? In my free time I enjoy hunting, riding dirt bikes and working on my truck.
What is your favorite movie? My favorite movie is SWAT.
What is your favorite book? My favorite book is The Young Duke: The Earley Life of John Wayne by Chris Enss and Howard Kazanjian.
What is your favorite food? My favorite food is pizza.
Do you have any siblings? I have one sibling that is 26.
What made you choose VCS versus a traditional school? I just felt like I could get a better learning experience being able to learn at my pace.
Any advice you would like to share with your fellow students? I would like to share that this path of schooling is all in what you make it. You have the best chance here! Give it your all!

Mrs. Miller teaches middle school language arts
What is your favorite thing about VCS? My favorite thing about VCS is getting to know my students and families.
What do you want your students to accomplish while they attend VCS? I want all VCS students to love learning and love to read.
What advice do you want to pass on to your students? Please, please, please contact your teachers, if you need assistance in your classes. We are here to help and we love to hear from you.

Food: Chocolate
Book: The Left Behind Series....I love childrens' books... Junie B. Jones is one of my favorite series. My daughter used to read these to me when she was younger. Great memories!!
Movie: Gone with the Wind
TV Show: Fox News, Biggest Loser, Cooking and Gardening Shows
Hobby/Interest: Gardening, reading, and watching my daughter play soccer
Season: I enjoy all of the seasons in Ohio, but spring and fall are my favorites.
Vacation Destination: Tennessee
Childhood Memory: On Sunday afternoons, my family would go to my grandparents' for dinner. Aunts, uncles and cousins would usually show up, too. We had wonderful meals, but what we enjoyed the most was spending time with family and playing on the farm.
