Greetings!
|

Happy new year! So far, in Columbus, we've dodged Old Man Winter for the most part. The balmy mid-40s temperatures that we've had recently have got me thinking about summer school!
I'm very excited to unveil our new plan for summer school this year. There have been big changes to the schedule and pricing. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!
We are still finalizing the summer school course offerings. If you'd like to suggest a course, please contact Eric Williams with your recommendation. We'll once again offer courses for grades 6-12.
Please share this summer school information with your districts right away. Schools can send their students to VCS for summer school, and the district won't have to deal with finding teachers, securing classroom space or registering students. We'll remove the hassle and provide a quality educational option! See the article below for more details and watch for more information soon.
Sincerely,
Mr. Rick Teeters
Director of Special Programs

Summer session will end on July 27th. We have also significantly lowered our prices. Summer 2012 pricing is as follows:
Full-time VCS Student Full credit course: $50 Half credit course: $25

Stayed tuned for the final course listing and registration information. We hope to begin registration in mid-February.

Surveys indicate high satisfaction regarding VCS Ohio teachers
|
VCS Ohio families are asked to complete a survey regarding their teachers each semester. At VCS, we feel that surveys provide important insight regarding how we are performing as an organization. Here are some recent results.
- This teacher responds to my questions within 24 hours--97% said yes!
- This teacher provides clear and helpful comments when returning my assignments--97% said yes!
- When I do not understand my schoolwork, the teacher tries different ways to help me--96% said yes!
- This teacher treats me with care and respect--99% said yes!
Here are some comments made by students on recent surveys:
- "Mrs. Terrell met my expectations completely. She was there when I needed help, and she was able to explain things to where I could understand it. She is everything you could ask for in a teacher!"
- "I love how nice all of my teachers are! They are there when I have a question."
- "Mrs. Callicoat is the best teacher ever! She rules!"
We are very happy with the results of the most recent survey, but we always strive to improve. The leadership team is taking a close look at the survey results and will work with the teaching staff to identify ways to improve.

Meet fellow ESC partner: Dewey Chapman
|
Dewey is the Superintendent at the Portage County ESC
How do you utilize VCS and our services? We primarily utilize our ESC-VCS partnership in offering other ESC's in our regions and school districts the varied programs and products that are available to assist school districts in saving dwindling resources and alternatives to the typical instructional delivery models.
What has been the most popular VCS program or course within your schools? We have had the most success with enrolling students in VCS full time. Usually these are students that have not had success in their home districts or community school and are looking for alternatives to learning.
Where do you see the future of our partnership going? It difficult to say what the future holds, as education is changing more and more quickly. However, the Portage ESC and VCS have proven that we are able to work together in bringing new ideas and programs to the students. I suspect this will continue to be a priority, but I see us expanding this relationship to the district level, giving administrators more options to their teachers and students while at the same time saving valuable resources.
Our relationship with VCS has been very rewarding and even fun. The staff at Portage ESC really appreciate the excellent service and willingness to dream, create and try new things on behalf of the VCS leadership. They are our exclusive partner when it comes to providing digital learning, and an organization we turn to in exploring new ways of providing instructional resources to our customers. VCS is a class organization.

Students celebrate the holiday season
|
The VCS visiting teachers have been busy the past few months, traveling around the state for the annual holiday craft making event. They hosted an event in Ravenna, Englewood (near Dayton) and at the VCS office in Columbus. More than 75 students and family members gathered together to celebrate the season with food, fun and crafts! Even some branching students were in attendance. See some photos from the Columbus event below. To view all the photos, click here.
