Winter Break

No School

December 17- January 2

Race to the Top News

On Monday, Dec. 5 and Tuesday, Dec. 6, representatives from the School Improvement Grant (SIG) Assessment Team will visit the VCS office. During that time, they will observe classrooms by watching recorded lessons. They may also visit live sessions or speak with teachers in person on Monday since the staff will be present for professional development.

Greetings!

Jim McCord

I'm not sure how it happens, but December arrives quicker each year! It seems like yesterday that we kicked off the school year, and now we're approaching the end of the semester. Please note that our school calendar is a bit different from previous years, so the first semester ends on Friday, December 16. I think that is a nice, clear transition with winter break between the two semesters. Second semester will begin when school resumes on January 3. Enjoy your break. I hope you have a safe and joyous holiday season!

Please take the end of semester surveys

surveyAt VCS, our vision is to be a world-class educational organization. In hopes of reaching our vision, VCS has implemented end of the semester surveys for students and families to complete about their experiences, good and bad, for the current semester.

Students in grades K-6, click here to take the survey

Students in grades 7-8, click here to take the survey.

Students in grades 9-12, click here to take the survey.

We ask if you would complete a survey for each one of your teachers. They will only take a few minutes of your time. The surveys will be open from now until the end of the semester, December 16. Please help us make VCS world class!

Help Desk Elluminate time changed to 2 p.m.

help deskEvery other Wednesday, the VCS Help Desk holds an Elluminate session to cover commonly asked questions and technical problems that students face. Each session covers a certain topic and is followed by a question and answer portion.

The time for all Help Desk Elluminate sessions has changed to 2 p.m. The next Elluminate will take place on Wednesday, December 14.

What is your favorite thing about VCS?  I love the fact that VCS is flexible for our students.  There are so many students who need to go to work or have other obligations that do not fit into a regular "school day".  They can access it anywhere and anytime!

What do you want students to accomplish while they attend VCS?
I want my students to realize their own potential and become more responsible as a student.  I also want them to realize that they can accomplish anything as long as they have an education!  Education is freedom.

What advice do you want to pass on to students?
The best advice I can give a student is to take their studies seriously, soon they will be an adult and they will need their education to get ahead in life.  You will never want to look back and realize you should have paid more attention to your studies.

STUDENT ADVISER SPOTLIGHT: Ms. RacQuelle Major
RacQuelleRacQuelle is a VCS student adviser

What is your favorite thing about VCS? Being able to engage with and meet students, although this is an online school. The staff welcomed me with open arms. Everyone here has a desire to make a difference in the lives of students.

What has been your most rewarding experience at VCS? Being able meet with students and tutoring them on an area they may struggle in. When they finally 'get it', that brings me great joy.

Fun Facts

When I am not working... I am COOKING!!! I am an aspiring chef (and school principal). I love to cook southern soul food classics such as smothered chicken, greens, yams, and pound cake.

If I won the lottery I would... Open up my own soup kitchen for the poor. I would serve the BEST Soul food!! :)

The best vacation I ever had was... New York City. Although I am a country girl at heart, I love the sites of the city!

If I could travel anywhere, I would go to... Africa. I would love to go on a safari.

I am most proud of... Graduating college with honors and recently being accepted into OSU to continue my PhD studies.

The person I admire the most is... My late parents. They taught me that persistence pays off.
