It is difficult to know whether the person(s) in question was in service Sunday to hear the sermon or not. Perhaps they were not. Perhaps they had already mailed the piece out since it arrived in person's mail today (Tuesday) so perhaps they mailed it out on Friday or Saturday. I would hate to believe that a person could have worshipped with us on Sunday, heard the message, and still choose to do a hateful, unloving, ungraceful and immature thing as to send out a copy of a Blog posting anonymously (which is always a cowardice act of evil).
It appears that some statement about First UMCs Former Pastor was copied off a Blog site and those copies were sent to persons in an attempt to "rub their noses" in the statement that the Pastor allegedly had made about his current beliefs. I can think of no smaller minded or ill-tempered act of pure hatred. It certainly is a fact that whomever did this is not of God. I pray that they will repent, make amends and be restored to the faith, or that they will leave and not return. If I find out who it is I will move for church discipline to be moved swiftly and that they have their membership removed.
As I preached Sunday, it is over. Give it God. Repent. Forgive, Make amends, move on, or move out! There is no room for hate or wickedness at First Church UMC Michigan City. We are getting ready to receive a new Pastor whom we want to be worthy of by extending welcome, prayers and open arms. The past is done. If you can't let it go come and see me. My phone always rings. We will work through it, but all this immature, unchristian B.S. will stop and stop now or there will be no more First UM Church with you in it.
A word to the wise is all there needs to be. And, if you are aware of who did this and do nothing to correct it you too are guilty and need to repent and make things right. God will not forgive you if your brothers and sisters won't. We pray it so every day, every week. Enough!
