Welcome to
First United Methodist Church
of Michigan City
Greetings!
In the last Blurb, we concluded that the Purpose/Mission of First United Methodist Church of Michigan City is to make disciples of Jesus Christ via welcoming-worshiping-nurturing-sending.
We discussed also the need for self-evaluation, both as individuals and as a church. However, before we can do that we need to know where we are going and by when. What we need is a Vision Statement to be used as our guide to goals and objectives. To achieve this, we need help ... God's Help. We must pray for His help to become (1) more honest with ourselves, (2) more open-minded to receive knowledge of His Will for us, and (3) more willing to use the power and resources that He has given us to carry out His Will. Please pause right now and pray for these things and then consider the following:
Suggested Vision Statement for First United Methodist Church in Michigan City, IN
In three years, to be known by our parent, the United Methodist Church, and our community as an attractive church fellowship that adheres to the teachings and directives of Jesus Christ by:
· Welcoming:
- Practicing the principles of Christ's teachings in all our activities and relationships
- Providing a warm, friendly, safe place for worship and fellowship with a Christian family atmosphere
· Worshiping:
- Teaching the Gospel and Christ's teachings in a mind-opening manner
- Leading persons to commit to God through baptism and profession of faith in Jesus Christ
- Offering the sacraments to honor the sacrifices of Jesus Christ
- Including music as a vital component of worship
· Nurturing:
- Having regular worship services structured to appeal to all persons of all ages
- Encouraging adhering to the teachings of Jesus Christ in all affairs
- Enhancing understanding of God's Word via Bible study courses
- Providing learning opportunities for children and young people
· Sending:
- Carrying Christ's message to people outside of our church
- Seeking more disciples to join our church
- Working together in social structures consistent with the Gospel
- Providing support to the needy and suffering, both in our church and our community
· Evaluating:
- Redefining the Vision Statement as appropriate to strive for progress
- Adding or improving strategic plans aimed at achieving the goals of the Vision Statement
- Reviewing regularly our actual progress in creating disciples and attaining our Vision.
In the next Blurb, we will focus on self-evaluation necessary to determine how to achieve progress toward our Vision.
Please give me a phone call or send me an email to share your thoughts on the above. Your feedback is important.
May God Bless You All,
Lance Domke

Children's Sunday School needs YOU!!
"Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6
1st UMC has always had a tradition of training our children to be disciples for Jesus Christ and my children have been greatly blessed in this training. However, 1st UMC is currently finding it difficult to find "trainers" for our Kindergarten through 5th grade class.
If you are willing to be a "trainer" for our children in this class, just ONE Sunday per month, please contact Tricia at 879-9466 or see her between the services. |

If so, we will be officially welcoming New Members on Sunday February 26 at both service times (your choice.) Please respond by calling the Office, telling Pastor Larry, our Lay Leader Wally or dropping a note in the collection plate.
Membership does not come with any privileges, but it does come with responsibilities.
Membership to the church is unlike membership with any other place. Come, join us with the Lord Jesus Christ for the time of your life!
