Welcome to First United Methodist Church
of Michigan City
Greetings!
I'll just have to say it. It is hard to write this article for the church today as I know that on Saturday we are going to lay to rest one of the most gifted, and dedicated, church leaders we have all come to know and love. So my focus today will be on Ray Warren. Ray, some knew him as "Red", was a quiet, gentle and thoughtful man. He was always positive in his thoughts and complained little about the circumstances in his life. In my opinion, he did not focus on the past but always looked to the future. Ray tried to inspire me to be my best and to do my best and sometimes he was successful in his efforts. When I failed him he did not rebuke me, rather he just shared how I could turn my misstep into something more positive. I did not know Ray to say an unkind word about another person; however, he was not timid if confronted with a dispute involving people with whom he associated. While Ray was not one to stand out in a crowd or seek attention, he commanded great respect from those who knew him and enjoyed his company. He was a prince of a man!
So, I'll miss the twinkle in his eye that gave away some of his mischievous inclinations about enjoying life and I'll miss his gentle instruction and warm, genuine handshake. Most of all I'll miss the friendship that we developed over the short time that we had together. Thank you Ray for being a part of my life.
John VW
