Welcome to First United Methodist Church
of Michigan City
Greetings!
This biblical verse was taken from the New American Standard Bible. In Romans 8:28 it states, "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose."
What a wonderful teaching for us to focus on as we move into a New Year.
During our lives we all face periods of adversity stemming from illness, misunderstandings with friends and family and false statements made within the community around us. However, we are reminded in the Bible of people who shared similar adversities and who, with God's help and their continued faith and love of God, were restored to a life holding more meaning and greater rewards. One of those that come to mind is Joseph who was thrown into prison, and while there, formed a relationship with his jailer that ultimately led him a position of greatness in the King's cabinet. Another that is quickly identified is Job who had his family, his vast wealth and his health taken from him but because of his unwavering faith in, and love of, God had everything restored to him more abundantly. Their spiritual legacy is well documented in the scriptures. God did "cause all things to work together for good" in their lives.
So let's seek our spiritual legacy in 2012 as "those who are called according to His purpose." No matter what we are confronted with in our lives let's work to place those burdens in God's hands while maintaining our faith and continuing to love God with all our hearts, souls and minds. By taking our faith as serious as Joseph and Job took theirs we will receive the gifts God has planned for us and be in a position to share these gifts in our communities today, replicating the legacies of our past mentors.
Happy New Year! May God be ever present in your lives!
