November 11, 2011                                                                          Weekly Blurb

Welcome to First United Methodist Church
of Michigan City

Greetings!

It is God's will that everybody be BLESSED. It does not matter who you are, God wants you to be blessed. However, to be blessed by God, there are some things that we must do. Here are seven simple things that we need to do to receive our blessings.

First, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Trust him, rely on him, have confidence and faith in him.  He wants you to succeed, so if you want to be blessed by God, you must first believe that he is in control of your life.

Second, Live for Christ. Obey God's commandments and do what is taught in God's word.
That is why it is so important that you study God's word, and that you meditate on God's word. You see, you can't obey or do God's word if you don't know His word. So, to be blessed, we need to know His word so we can do what he wants us to do.

Third, Earnestly seek the Lord Jesus Christ in prayer. Matthew 6:33 says, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you." He is the source of all of our blessings.

Fourth, Serve the Lord Jesus Christ. No matter we do that, whether it be singing in the choir or being an usher, whether it is feeding the homeless, or visiting the sick, whatever you do for the Lord, do it from the heart with gladness and to the glory of God.

Fifth, Sing praises unto the Lord Jesus Christ because he is worthy to be praised.  When the praises go up, blessings come down. Psalm 95:6 says, "O come, let us sing unto the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation."

Sixth, Evangelize for Jesus Christ. Be a witness for Jesus Christ. Tell somebody about the goodness of the Lord and of the saving power of Jesus Christ.  Matthew 28:19-20 says, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you".

Seventh, Dedicate your life to Jesus Christ. You must surrender yourself to the Lord if you want to be blessed by God.  Psalm 37:5 says, "Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him and he shall bring it to pass."

These seem to be simple steps yet for most of us they are very hard to follow.  Start with the first step and you will be surprised with how quickly you get to the second and then the third....

Have a great week.
