Welcome to First United Methodist Church
of Michigan City
Greetings!
Cast Your Worries Away!
I tried to close my eyes to rest, but my mind refused to turn off. I couldn't stop wondering if I should have said or done something different. Finally, I got up and went over to my computer, hoping to find some nugget of truth to ease my mind. I caught sight of a scripture someone had posted which read:
"Cast thy burdens upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved" (Psalm 55:22).
Here the Lord is speaking to me about casting my burdens, my worries, upon Him! Suddenly, I knew I needed to hand over to Him each of my worries. If I'd messed up, He was big enough to handle it! I didn't need to carry my worries alone. If I am worried about 1) all the things that I need to do, 2) about what I've said or done, 3) worried about our church, 4) about my health or 5) about my family and friends, all I need to remember is that I wasn't meant to carry these worries alone. I am to "cast" my worries upon the Lord so he can sustain and guide me in removing them. So that is what I will do. Will you?
"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your burdens upon him; for He cares for you." 1 Peter 5: vs 6-7

Prayer Corner
We received the following email today from Felicia Thomas regarding Lew Timberlake: Hi, Family - Just had a call from Joan, and Lewie is in the hospital after falling at Wendy's around 6:15 last night. She is back on her way up there now and I offered to send out word to the family. Apparently they were stopping there for dinner on their way to the Flying Carpet. She doesn't know if he just miss-stepped on his way up the curb by the door. But he fell and tried to catch himself, though she said the more he tried, the faster his momentum brought him to the pavement. He fell on the left side of his face and has a fractured left eye socket. Wendy's employees called an ambulance and he was transported to St. Anthony's where they sewed him up with 28 stitches. Joan said he's looking pretty rough. They admitted him around midnight so they could keep an eye on him overnight. Joan couldn't get through to him this morning, but talked with the nurse who said he was in a lot of pain last night. She'll be dropping off his glasses to be repaired before heading back up to see him. She really thinks he'll be home later today unless there are other problems that arise. I will definitely keep everyone updated when I hear more.
