Greetings!

Well another busy week has past.  I'll bet it has been that way for you also.  Where does all our time go?  I recently reviewed an article speaking about how we use the 168 hours in a week.  Let me see, 56 hours for sleeping (although we don't need that much), 46 hours for getting to and from work and performing our jobs, 20 hours for meals (if that long), 15 hours for chores (cooking, cleaning, home and auto maintenance), 18 hours for entertainment (TV, movies, reading, seeing friends), 6 hours for homework.  Wow, there are still 7 hours left in the week.

It was interesting to me that in these surveys there was no mention of church or worship time in this "week of time".  Maybe we all need to take a moment to see how we each spend our time in an effort to determine how many extra hours remain in our "week of time".  How many extra hours do you have?  I wonder how different 1st UMC would be if we committed all our "unused" hours to teaching others about Jesus.  Just a thought!

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads!  You are special every day.

Vacation Bible School   June 20th - 24th

In this kid-friendly café full of chef's hats and aprons, pots and pans, checkered tablecloths, and chalkboard menus, kids explore the Bible as a cookbook filled with recipes for living out God's word. Through interactive lessons, that are easy for kids to apply to their lives today, boys and girls will celebrate biblical festivals that reveal ingredients for being a follower of God.

By celebrating biblical festivals, they will:

ˇ         Be ready for God

ˇ         Give happily to God

ˇ         Believe fully in Jesus

ˇ         Remember Jesus often

ˇ         Celebrate God forever

Be sure to invite all your friends and neighbors too!  I wonder what would happen if each child brought just 1 friend to VBS this year.

Click here to print the VBS flyer.

Click  here to print the VBS Wishlist.  You can bring your donations to church and leave them in the box provided in the Narthex.

Pickle Time

Mary Martha Circle will be selling their "World Class Pickles" between church services on June 26.  Quart jars are $8 and pints are $5.  If you have any questions please contact Sandi at (219) 325-3632
Graduation

Thank you

A Special Thank You to  everyone who helped make Graduation/Scholarship Sunday a wonderful Day.  We also appreciate Wallace Hook, Maryann Cross, Dottie Evett, Jo Presser, Betty Staples, Lew Timberlake, Bev Griffith, Theresa Pagos, and the Contemporary Choir.  Each of them had a special project they

helped with.

Would you like to sponsor the monthly Crossbeams?

Please call the church office to sign up to sponsor a month.  The remaining months for this year are available for sponsorship.  We need to know the reason for sponsoring (if any): for a special occasion or in honor or memory of someone. The cost is $100, which will cover postage and paper.

Shop With Scrip.com logo

Are you wondering how the Scrip program works?

It's very simple and I can explain it in three or four basic points...

1.  You come to the Scrip table with your checkbook or cash and place an order*.

2.  You receive your order

3.  You go shopping!

4.  The church makes MONEY!

*If we don't carry your item in stock, it will be here the following Sunday.

Let's go just a little more in depth using Lindos & Al's in our example.

1.  You come to the Scrip table and place an order for $20 in Lindos and $100 to Al's.

2.  You receive $20 to Lindos & $100 to Al's.

3.  It's Sunday and you just love the Chicken Soup at Lindos so you go there for dinner and you use your gift certificate.  Then on Monday, you go grocery shopping at Al's and you use your gift certificate there as well.**

4.  When the church pre-ordered those gift certificates we purchased them at a discount.  Lindos gives 10% and Al's gives 5%.  Therefore when we sold those certificates to you 1st UMC made $2.00 & $5.00 respectfully.  Or 1st UMC made $7.00 from your $120 order.

**Any "change" will stay on the gift certificate and you just keep using it until it is all gone.

See, it really is just that simple.  The hardest part is remembering that you have the certificates!  I suggest putting them in the money (cash) area of your wallet or right in your checkbook in front of the next check.  That way you see them and you will be sure to use them.  Once you get in the habit, it will become second nature!  Start using them today for all your normal household shopping.  It will also help keep you on BUDGET!

There are many NATIONAL companies who sell gift cards through SCRIP and everyone can find somewhere they shop regularly. Scrip is a GREAT way to send birthday gifts, graduation gifts, wedding, anniversary, Fathers day, etc.

We have made over $3,600 profit in just 11 months for our church!  We are just $1,400 in profit away from reaching our first goal of $5,000 in the first year!  We really need your help!
