| Greetings!
Memorial Day does not mark the beginning of summer as so many now believe!
Memorial Day is a day to honor those who gave their lives to maintain the union and, later, to provide and protect our freedom or provide the opportunity of freedom to others. Originally known as Decoration Day, this day was used to decorate the graves of those who lost their lives during the Civil War. Many believe that the women of the Confederate States first initiated this activity by placing flowers on the graves of their deceased loved ones. The Union States adopted this activity and it was formalized on May 5th, 1868 through a proclamation issued by General John A. Logan. Flowers were placed at the graves of soldiers, both Union and Confederate, laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery on May 30, 1868, the proclaimed date of remembrance. Today the graves of the 250,000 laid to rest at Arlington have their graves "decorated" each Memorial Day in observance of their selflessness. If you have the chance, please attend your community's remembrance of these fallen soldiers and take a moment to decorate their resting place in acknowledgement of their gift to you. God Bless.

Homebound Ministries
In the past, we had one person who called on church members who were in a nursing home or homebound. It was a job much too difficult for one person. We have now reconfigured this ministry to have one person from our church visit one person who is homebound on a once monthly basis. We are having a very good response from this method of attending to our church friends. Although we have all homebound assigned to a church member right now, we are asking for volunteers to participate in this ministry should the need arise. If you would be willing to do this, please contact the coordinator below. We particularly need men to visit with other men.
From time to time, I will be asking for your help by sending cards or notes to the homebound on their birthdays or upon surgery or hospitalization.
Shirley Aigner had knee surgery on May the 10th. She will be going to Life Care, 802 US Hwy 20 E, Michigan City for post surgery therapy.
Becky Lute will celebrate a birthday on May 30th. Her address is: 2352 N. US 421, Michigan City.

Vacation Bible School June 20th - 25th
In this kid-friendly café full of chef's hats and aprons, pots and pans, checkered tablecloths, and chalkboard menus, kids explore the Bible as a cookbook filled with recipes for living out God's word. Through interactive lessons, that are easy for kids to apply to their lives today, boys and girls will celebrate biblical festivals that reveal ingredients for being a follower ofGod.
By celebrating biblical festivals, they will:
ˇ Be ready for God
ˇ Give happily to God
ˇ Believe fully in Jesus
ˇ Remember Jesus often
ˇ Celebrate God forever
Please contact Angie at 872-7200 if you can help teach the children this year! There is lots to do and a lot of places you can help!
