| Greetings!
A few weeks ago I had an interesting question posed to me. It was simply, "did we have communion last week?" I thought for a moment and said no we did not!
So I began to think about communion and the timing of when it should be observed. First, the "Last Supper" was referred to in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John as well as in I Corinthians. Second, there was no mention as to how often it should be taken, however, in Corinthians it does make a reference to taking the "Meal" together, and at the same time with others, and some conclude that this means "periodically", again without specificity. Third, I found it interesting that only Luke and Corinthians speak to the matter of "This is the new covenant in my blood, do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me. Corinthians, alone, goes further to explain that you must perform a self-examination before eating the bread and drinking the wine as without recognizing the "body of the Lord" you will eat and drink judgment on yourself." This however does not answer the question.
So, if you were a historical Christian Jew, I would think that the "Last Supper" would be celebrated annually as Matthew, Mark, Luke and John all relate the timing of this "meal" to the Feast of the Unleavened Bread, or Passover. If you are Roman Catholic the "Last Supper" is celebrated at mass weekly, as a tradition of the church. As Methodists, before there were enough clergy, the "Last Supper" was celebrated, traditionally, every quarter; now that there are enough clergy it is tradionally celebrated monthly, although it is not a requirement to do so. For me personally, every time I have my meal I take time to 1) examine my heart, 2) say a prayer of thanksgiving and 3) remember the grace Jesus gave to me through his death on the cross. In that manner, I celebrate communion every day. I don't need to be reminded to do so in a formal service on any particular Sunday. How about you, is it just a tradition or are you living your beliefs?

Homebound Ministries
In the past, we had one person who called on church members who were in a nursing home or homebound. It was a job much too difficult for one person. We have now reconfigured this ministry to have one person from our church visit one person who is homebound on a once monthly basis. We are having a very good response from this method of attending to our church friends. Although we have all homebound assigned to a church member right now, we are asking for volunteers to participate in this ministry should the need arise. If you would be willing to do this, please contact the coordinator below. We particularly need men to visit with other men.
From time to time, I will be asking for your help by sending cards or notes to the homebound on their birthdays or upon surgery or hospitalization.
Shirley Aigner had knee surgery on May the 10th. She will be going to Life Care, 802 US Hwy 20 E, Michigan City for post surgery therapy.
Becky Lute will celebrate a birthday on May 30th. Her address is: 2352 N. US 421, Michigan City.

Vacation Bible School June 20th - 25th
In this kid-friendly café full of chef's hats and aprons, pots and pans, checkered tablecloths, and chalkboard menus, kids explore the Bible as a cookbook filled with recipes for living out God's word. Through interactive lessons, that are easy for kids to apply to their lives today, boys and girls will celebrate biblical festivals that reveal ingredients for being a follower ofGod.
By celebrating biblical festivals, they will:
ˇ Be ready for God
ˇ Give happily to God
ˇ Believe fully in Jesus
ˇ Remember Jesus often
ˇ Celebrate God forever
Please contact Angie at 872-7200 if you can help teach the children this year! There is lots to do and a lot of places you can help!
