Greetings!

Breaking with the traditions of the past...the teachings and habits that we have come to respect and which we now follow routinely, and almost as a matter of fact.

We all know that breaking this "lifestyle" is very hard to do but consider Peter's plight for a moment.  Peter journeyed to Caesarea to meet with Cornelius who has called for him.  In Acts 10 we read that Peter advised Cornelius that a Jew could not enter his home as it was against Jewish Law.  However, Peter ignored that law.  Later in the chapter we read that Peter had a vision in which all sorts of unclean animals were placed on a sheet before him with an instruction from God to kill those animals that were placed upon it and eat them.  Peter rejected the idea claiming that the food was unclean based on Jewish Law, yet God, advised Peter that if God declares it to be eaten then it is okay to be eaten (paraphrasing).  Remember, under Jewish Law Peter could be killed for these actions, yet God is making a point.  Simply this, you don't need to follow the traditions established by man for many times it has been stated biblically that these traditions are not mandates or "laws" from God, but rather from man.

So here we are today.  Each of us has a group of traditions, biases, or beliefs that have been ingrained in us from our youth (possibly indoctrinated in us from our youth).  For example, in my rearing we recited the Lord's Prayer after our morning's congregational prayer, we recited the "Apostle's Creed" and the "Ten Commandments" each Sunday as this was the traditional order of worship.  When this order of worship was changed members took exception to those changes....the question is why?  Show me anywhere in the Bible were it says that we should perform worship in this manner.  We continue to have these issues in our churches today...and I ask again, why? They are tearing Christianity apart! People, you attend church to worship God in fellowship with other believer's (meaning those who believe that Jesus died to provide our salvation).  You don't attend church to go through the repetitive motions of worship as that is fruitless.  Old Testament teachings show God as a vengeful, unmerciful God yet in the New Testament God changed...he sent a son to forgive our sins, to provide an eternal life.  If God can change why can't we be more accepting of changes within our church?  You know the answer....

Vacation Bible School   June 20th - 25th

In this kid-friendly café full of chef's hats and aprons, pots and pans, checkered tablecloths, and chalkboard menus, kids explore the Bible as a cookbook filled with recipes for living out God's word. Through interactive lessons, that are easy for kids to apply to their lives today, boys and girls will celebrate biblical festivals that reveal ingredients for being a follower ofGod.

By celebrating biblical festivals, they will:

ˇ         Be ready for God

ˇ         Give happily to God

ˇ         Believe fully in Jesus

ˇ         Remember Jesus often

ˇ         Celebrate God forever

Please contact Angie at 872-7200 if you can help teach the children this year!  There is lots to do and a lot of places you can help!
