Greetings!

As I think back to my childhood, I remember certain people from my church.  There was Marge K who was always front & center putting together the Mother/Daughter Banquet or any other Mother/Daughter outing.  By the time I turned 13 I had been to 12 of these events.  I really didn't want to go to them anymore, but I went at my father's urging.  "It's important to your Mother and you will go!"  Well, you all know my Dad, so you know that I went 'happily' as any good 13 year-old girl would.  Well, lets fast forward till I was the "Mother" and I had that little girl..."Hmm, Mom," I would say "When is the Mother/Daughter Banquet?"  To which my Mom finally replied "Honey, Marge isn't doing them anymore and no one else stepped up to put it together.  They are a lot of work and she is getting on in years..."

As I begin to become more service minded within my own church, I see where this is so true within our congregation.  I've heard people say..."I've been singing in the choir since 196____" or "I've been active in the UMW for 57 years".

Then I look at my own generation.  What do the 40 year olds have to say?  "I would love to, however I'm just so busy already...I've got 2 kids...I've got to work...I've got a special needs kid...The kids have too much homework...I've even heard a time or two "I would love to, however my HUSBAND just won't let me".  Yes, that is an excuse I have heard many, many times.

So, let me ask MY GENERATION...when will you step up in God's house?  And if you don't, then who will?  Yes, I'm just as guilty with the excuses.  Maybe you could pick one or two of mine out.  But I have to ask the hard question...If we don't start giving our time to the services this church has started and which are still going strongly, then where will First UMC be in 10 years?  The Valentine Tea is in it's 61st year and it would be a shame if some of us younger folk didn't step up to the plate and start helping!

We can use EVERYONE at every age!  We deeply appreciate everything that everyone has done for our church since the day is was started!  Without our generous congregation we would not have a church to worship in...please consider helping in some of the area's highlighted below.
