Invisible Children Assembly
 On Friday, members of the Invisible Children road crew visited Notre Dame. Invisible Children seeks to bring to light the war crimes and kidnapping of children in north central Africa who are then forced to join Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army and fight in a 28 year old war. Students viewed the movie Escape and then heard from a Ugandan citizen who witnessed the devastation of war growing up. The student body then posed for a picture with the "Stand With Us" banner.

Class of 2016 News: Freshman Retreat
 On Friday, September 28, the Freshmen class participated in their full day retreat in the school gym. The morning began with a light breakfast followed by some ice breaker games. The rest of the day consisted of individual and group reflecting and sharing. There was also quality praise and worship time as the class celebrated Mass together. The togetherness of this class was very encouraging. Fairfield University Health Fair
 On Tuesday, fifteen student nurses from Fairfield University's School of Nursing visited Notre Dame and sponsored a health fair for freshmen and sophomores. Visiting individual stations during their science classes, students learned more about the following topics: Stress Reduction, Sleep, Skin Care, Alcohol/Drug Education, Healthy Food Choices at Fast Food Restaurants, Exercise and Healthy Diet.

Open House Quickly Approaching
Notre Dame will be hosting its annual Open House for prospective families on Sunday, October 14. Tours begin at 1:00 pm and the program begins at 2:00 pm. College Essay Workshop Offered
Mr. Sulzycki will offer college essay workshops after school on October 10th and October 24th. The first workshop will cover selecting a topic, planning the essay, and importance of including specific details. The second will focus on revising and polishing the essay for submission. Students may attend one or both of these sessions and are asked to sign up in room 207.

Wear Your Pink to Saturday's Football Game
 The Notre Dame football team will join in a unified stance with the NFL Players Association to help create a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays by participating in the NFL "A Crucial Catch" campaign.
The ND football team will hold their event on Saturday, October 6 during their first home game of the season against the Oxford Wolverines at 3:30 pm. Fans are asked to come and support the team as they raise money to support the American Cancer Society's mission to help others. Wear your pink and please come out and join the team in their fight against cancer.

Only 10 days to go for our Student Fundraiser: Lancer Walk-a-thon. Our goal is to raise $30,000 and each student is asked to raise $100. The students voted and all money raised will go towards the purchase of new student lockers. We have GREAT PRIZES for everyone who participates! Every student who raises $100 - will receive a dress-down pass for midterm and finals week. Highest overall fundraiser - iPad, 2nd overall highest fundraiser - 32" HDTV, 3rd overall highest fundraiser - $100 AMEX gift card. Every student who returns their $100 on Wednesday, October 10 will receive a free homecoming dance ticket. The highest fundraiser on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of next week will receive a gift card.
Please help your son or daughter reach their goal by asking friends and family to support their efforts. We are also looking for business and corporate donations to help offset the cost of this year's event. If you have any questions, please contact our Advancement Office at marzik@notredame.org. Care Club Collecting Used Eye Glasses
The ND Care Club recently began its 28th year of service to the community. In conjunction with the Lions Club, we are collecting used eye glasses and sunglasses which are then cleaned, repaired and distributed - providing, for free, the gift of sight to people in need. You can help! Simply drop off or send in your unwanted glasses to the collection box in the library by October 12th. Your gift will mean the world to someone in need. Thank you for caring.

Help ND Spread The Word - Display Our Open House Sign or Poster
 Do you live in a high traffic area? Can you display a Notre Dame Open House lawn sign to help get the word out about our upcoming Open House? If so, please contact Denise Ayala in our Admissions Office via email - ayala@notredame.org. Please let Denise know how we can get the sign to you ... by sending it home with your child, leaving it in the main office for pick-up, or dropping it off at your house. We also have open house posters for display in area businesses and parishes. If you could help us with hanging up a poster in your office building, business, or church, we would be most appreciative. Freshmen Testing Approaching
ACT Explore testing will be given to all freshmen on Wednesday, October 17 during school hours. All students are reminded to bring two No. 2 pencils and a four - function, scientific or graphing calculator (no cell phones, electronic devices or laptops can be used as calculators).

PSATs will be given to sophomores and juniors on Wednesday, October 17 during school hours. All students are reminded to bring two No. 2 Pencils and a scientific or graphing calculator (no cell phones, electronic devices or laptops can be used as calculators). All students are encouraged to use the PSAT Student Guide & Practice Booklets which can be found in the Guidance Office.

Mark Your Calendar: Lancer Legacy Gala
Notre Dame's annual Lancer Legacy Gala will take place on Wednesday, November 14 from 6-10 pm at the Waterview in Monroe. The Gala committee is looking for donations of silent auction items, program book ads (a great way to advertise your business), and sponsorships. Ticket purchasing information for the Gala will be arriving in your mailbox next week. This is a great evening to celebrate Notre Dame!

AHIHA Update
The Gintoli family announces the American Hearing Impaired Hockey Association (AHIHA) Fundraiser Night on opening night of the Sound Tigers at Webster Bank Arena, Saturday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m.
The Gintoli family has benefited tremendously from the support AHIHA has given them. For the past 10 years, they have attended their week-long summer hockey camp and participated in many organization-sponsored events such as the USA Hockey Annual Disabled Festival, Deaflympics and World Deaf Hockey championships. The next World Deaf Hockey championship will take place in April 2013 in Finland. Peter Gintoli '10 and Garrett Gintoli '14 have both been named to the U.S. team.

Bridgeport Public Library Offers AAA Dare To Prepare Workshop for Parents & Teens
The Bridgeport Public Library and AAA Southern New England - CT are offering a free teen driving information workshop to help parents and teens navigate the journey of pursuing a graduated driver's license (GDL). This informational program will take place on Wednesday, October 10 at 6:00 p.m. in the downtown Bridgeport Library's first floor Teen Café.
"Dare to Prepare," is a 90-minute workshop aimed at 15- and 16-year-olds and their parents. The workshop covers Connecticut's graduated driver's license (GDL) requirements, and what teens and parents must do to obtain a driver's permit and later a driver's license. It reviews distracted driving laws, focuses on the dangers of cell phone use, texting and drinking while driving and provides interactive exercises to drive home certain safety points. The workshop is free, however space is limited.

The Fairfield County Catholic newspaper is looking for high school-aged Catholic teens to write an article to be published in the Fairfield County Catholic Newspaper and the Diocese Youth Webpage. College Planning Assistance Available
Bridgeport Public Library will once again host Holly Franquet from The College Place. Ms. Franquet will be available in the downtown library's first floor Teen Café on the following Tuesdays this fall from 3-5 pm to help answer your college questions: October 9 & 23, November 13 & 27 and December 11.
These drop in sessions will emphasize: searching for colleges, majors, and careers, discussing college affordability and financial aid, discussing high school courses, grades, and test scores, starting the application to college, writing essays, asking for recommendations, and more.
This program is free and open to all high school students and their parents. Seventh and eighth grade students are also welcome. It is never too early to be thinking about college!
