ND Welcomes International Students
ND welcomes its largest international student group for the 2012-2013 school year. These students are visiting from Korea and China for the school year and are staying with area host families. The ND family is excited to welcome them to our community and looks forward to getting a better appreciation for their culture and traditions.

Grandparent Mass & Reception
Notre Dame will be hosting a mass and reception for grandparents on Monday, September 17 at 8:30 am. Grandchildren will be excused from class to attend with their grandparents. Mass will be celebrated in the ND Chapel with the reception immediately following. To RSVP for the event, please contact Theresa Marzik via email no later than Sunday, September 16.

Notre Dame High School faculty, staff and students began this year in the way most appropriate to our mission and purpose: celebrating with an opening of the school year Mass at Sacred Heart University's Chapel of the Holy Spirit on Friday, September 7. Mass was concelebrated by Fr. Bill and Fr. Cipriani. A very special note of thanks to the following students who assisted at the Mass: Readers - Caitlin Dudek '13, Kevin Bradley '14, Brendan Wardlow '14, Mike King '13 and Jennifer Mezzapelle '13; Altar Servers - Aly Furgiuele '13 and Caitlin Wardlow '16; Gift Bearers - Lauren Puskar '13, Matt Korosani '14, Greg Ferris '14 and Katie Yellen '13; Singers - Dan Murphy '13, Amy Pagliaro '13 and Mr. St. Onge.

 Freshmen and sophomores had the opportunity to speak with representatives from dozens of Notre Dame clubs, activities and sports teams on Friday morning during Notre Dame's annual activities fair. Clubs distributed literature about their organization and encouraged underclassmen to join their group.

 The Student Council sponsored the fall pep rally on Friday afternoon. MC-ed by Student Council President Tyler Lehren '13, each team was introduced by their respective captains and the cheerleaders provided a unique cheer for every team. The Lancer mascot also made his first appearance of the school year. With games officially beginning this week, we certainly wish all of our teams the best of luck this fall season.

A special thank you to the parents and guardians who attended Thursday evening's Back to School Night. It was great to see so many parents here. If you were unable to attend but have a question for one of your child's teachers, please reach out to them via email. Special thanks to HSA President Kathy Stefanatos and Marianne Cassidy who coordinated refreshments and sold ND merchandise.

Sacred Heart University Open House
 Sacred Heart University, Notre Dame's educational partner, will be hosting their fall Open House on Saturday, September 15 from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Registration begins at 9:00 outside the chapel. Interested families are encouraged to attend. A special information session will be held in October for ND families to learn more about the SHU-ND partnership tuition discount program.

The first Ed-line reports of the year will be posted by this Sunday evening, September 16. A class syllabus (rules, grade breakdown, etc.) and all homework will also be posted. Directions on how to activate your child's Edline account were mailed home this week. Please contact the school if you did not receive this information.

Parent Association/Booster Club Meeting
The first meeting of the year of the Parent Association/Booster Club will take place on Wednesday, September 17 at 7:00 pm in the library.Join other parents and find out the exciting events planned for this year.This is a great way to meet other families and get involved in the Notre Dame community.

Cheer Team Fund-Raising Efforts
Clothing Drive
It's time to clean out those closets! The ND Cheer Team is having a used clothing drive at the school on Saturday, October 6 from 10 am - 2 pm. We are accepting clothing, textiles, bedding, towels, shoes, belts (no furniture or knick knacks). Bags can be dropped off at the school during the collection period and volunteers will be available to help. Click here for more information.
Comedy Night
Save the Date!! Notre Dame will be holding a Comedy Night to benefit the ND Cheer Team on Friday, October 26 at Molto Bene Italian American Kitchen at John J. Sullivan's in Seymour. The show features Connecticut's own comedian Gary Pettinella. Doors open at 7 pm and the show begins at 9 pm. Tickets will be available for purchase through students and parents as well as at the door the night of the show. Join us for a night of good food, drinks and laughs!!! More information to follow in the coming weeks.

Meet The CoachesAt hletic Director, Mr. Rob Bleggi, spoke to a packed gymnasium of parents on Monday night. This gathering was to kick-off the fall sports season and introduce the fall coaches and also provide an overview of rules of conduct and sportsmanship. The fall sports line up includes (coaches) Cheerleading (Margaret O' Reilly), girl's and boy's Soccer (Pedro Oliveira and Whitey Budreckas, Football (Dawon Dicks), girls' and boys' Cross Country (Ed Berberich), and Volleyball (Jon Mercado). The sports program also provides an on-site Athletic Trainer (Mrs. Deb McDonagh) in attendance at practices and home games. As a testament to our student body, last year over 5 teams received the SWC Sportsmanship Award. Look for game schedules posted on ND's website or at ciacsports.com and come out to support your favorite teams!
Boys/Girls Hockey Informational Meeting
There will be a mandatory meeting for all students interested in trying out for the Boys' Varsity and JV Hockey Team and the Girls' Varsity Hockey team on Thursday, October 4 at 7 pm in the cafe. A parent/guardian must attend the meeting with the student. Anyone interested in playing, but who cannot make the meeting, please see Mr Bleggi.

The Fairfield County Catholic Newspaper is looking for high school aged Catholic teens to write an article to be published in the Fairfield County Catholic Newspaper and the Diocese Youth Webpage. A different article will be published every month and there will be a $25 gift card for each article published. Email articles with photo to jmonroe@diobpt.org. SAT/ACT Group Courses are being offered at Notre Dame through Revolution Prep. These courses provide students the opportunity to collaborate and learn from the smartest, most engaging instructors in the industry. Click here for more information and a schedule of classes.

AES Engineers Scholarship Deadline Approaching
AES Engineers scholarship deadline is less than a month away - October 5, 2012. They will be awarding $500 to the winner(s) each year.
To apply, students must submit an essay on one of the two topics that appear on the scholarship page of their web site. |
Teaching and Learning Center Looking for Volunteers
The Teaching & Learning Center at Notre Dame welcomes adults and/or college students who would like to support students in math, science, English, and social studies. Tutoring can be during the school day or after school from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. For more information, please contact Mr. DiPalma, Teaching & Learning Center Director.

Sacred Heart University will host the New England Association of College Admissions Counselors (NEACAC) Regional College Fair on Thursday, September 20, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the William H. Pitt Health and Recreation Center.
More than 150 colleges from across the country and abroad, along with dozens of other exhibitors, will be available to showcase post-secondary opportunities to high school students and their families. Attendance is free, and the event is open to the public. For more information on the college fair or NEACAC, please go to www.neacac.org.

Because of the number of expected attendees, we encourage carpooling to the event. Priority parking will take place on Sacred Heart University's campus, and overflow parking will be available at the Westfield Trumbull Mall off Madison Avenue in Trumbull, CT. Shuttles will be provided to and from the mall. Also, feel free to park at Notre Dame and walk across the street.

Second Benefit Antique & Classic Car Show
 On Saturday, September 29 from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm, Notre Dame will host the Second Benefit Antique & Classic Car Show with all proceeds going to the Drama Club to help offset the cost of their spring production. Our very own Mr. St. Onge will be the emcee for the event! There will be food, music, raffles, ballot voting and trophies. There is no cutoff year - all makes and models welcome with a $10 car registration fee. Free admission to view. If you can spare a few hours, we are looking for volunteers to help out on the day of the show! Any adults who plan to volunteer in any Diocesan school, including Notre Dame, must complete paperwork including a background check and attend a Virtus Training session. Notre Dame will sponsor a Virtus session on Tuesday, September 18 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm at the school. If you are interested in completing this training, you must register on-line. Click here to register and select "Begin the Registration Process". Space is limited to 50 participants.

In June, Notre Dame received a check for over $1,500 thanks to all the families and friends who registered their Stop and Shop cards for the A+ Rewards program and designated Notre Dame as their school. We'd love it if you could help us again this year ... all you do is select Notre Dame, use your Stop and Shop card, and we get a percentage of all the purchases. Click here to register your card. College Planning Assistance Available
Bridgeport Public Library will once again host Holly Franquet from The College Place. Ms. Franquet will be available in the downtown library's first floor Teen Café on the following Tuesdays this fall from 3-5 pm to help answer your college questions: September 18, October 9 & 23, November 13 & 27 and December 11.
These drop in sessions will emphasize: searching for colleges, majors, and careers, discussing college affordability and financial aid, discussing high school courses, grades, and test scores, starting the application to college, writing essays, asking for recommendations, and more.
This program is free and open to all high school students and their parents. Seventh and eighth grade students are also welcome. It is never too early to be thinking about college!
