Teaching and Learning Center at Notre Dame

DiPalma
Larry DiPalma

Beginning this fall, students and faculty will have an added resource for academic support with the opening of Notre Dame's Teaching and Learning Center. Directed by Mr. Larry DiPalma, who recently retired from Ansonia public schools and was the 2011 Connecticut recipient of the National Distinguished Principal Award, Mr. DiPalma brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him to this position. Mr. DiPalma has already begun implementing the vision for the center. He has been providing one-on-one math support for any incoming freshman and is launching JUMP START, a one week math skills program for college prep-level students to reinforce math skills learned in junior high school. Mr. DiPalma will teach two math sections in the coming school year, as well as provide additional academic support for certain freshmen and sophomores. He will also help to implement peer tutoring and mentoring programs. We are thrilled to welcome Mr. DiPalma to the ND family!

Interested in Becoming a Host Family?

New ND students from South Korea & China are looking for warm and caring host families. They are interested in staying with host families because they want to learn more about American culture and to practice their English in an authentic atmosphere. By becoming a host family, you will not only give a student the chance to experience daily American life, but will also provide your family an opportunity to learn about another culture without having to leave your home.

An appropriate Host Family will:

1. Have an open mind towards a different culture and be ready to learn about it.

2. Be able to provide a private room (a bathroom may be shared) for the student.

3. Be able to accept and take care of the student just like your own children, which includes providing a safe and comfortable environment, providing 3 adequate meals and appropriate snacks each day, and providing rides to and from activities and/or for essential shopping.

Monthly stipends range from $900 to $1,200.
