April Vacation Is Upon Us
While our students and faculty will be on vacation through April 22, the main office will be open between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm Monday through Friday. The next edition of The ND Update will be published on Friday, April 27.

Spring Open House Planned
All prospective families are invited to Notre Dame's Spring Open House on Sunday, April 29 at 2:00 pm. Whether in the sixth through eighth grade or a potential transfer student, all are welcome to tour the school and meet with members of the faculty and student body. Please help us to spread the word to your family and friends.

Antique & Classic Car/Motorcycle Show This Weekend
What better way to celebrate this year's spring musical, Grease, than with an Antique & Classic Car/Motorcycle Show this Sunday, April 15 from 2:00 - 6:00 pm. Admission to attend the event is free. Rita's Ice Celebrity Scoop Night with Mr. St. Onge

Tickets to this year's spring musical, Grease, are now on sale. This year's spring musical promises to be one of ND's best. Grease will take place at the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, May 4th (8pm), Saturday, May 5th (2 and 8pm) and Sunday, May 6th (2pm). Tickets can be purchased by clicking here. On Wednesday, April 11, the Care Club visited the Jewish Home Day Care Center in Fairfield and enjoyed sharing in many activities with the clients. As a follow-up to our NAMES anti-bullying assembly in March, hundreds of Notre Dame students and faculty signed the "Ally Pledge" this week, affirming their commitment to serve as an ally to everyone at Notre Dame. As a sign of their commitment, students are wearing blue wristbands with the embossed pledge.

Youth Character and Leadership Development Workshop
The following students participated in an all-day Youth Character and Leadership Development Workshop sponsored by the Sterling House Community Center in Stratford on Thursday, April 12: Tekarah Coward '15, Zahria Lauhorn '15, Alexis Restivo '12, Geissy Bitencourt '12, Caitlin Lonergan '15, Morgan Sweeney '15 and Taylor Chavez '13.
Freshmen Field Day Coming Soon
Parents of freshmen students are reminded that Friday, April 27 is Notre Dame's Freshmen Field Day. Freshmen students will be serving as mentors to third through sixth graders from Dunbar School in Bridgeport. The activities for the day will include a variety of field games and opportunities for students to have fun with their mentees and each other. Freshmen are asked to bring in $5 to cover the cost of lunch for their mentees and themselves. Students who are not present on Field Day will have to make up their remaining service hours in some other way. Please contact Mr. St.Onge at stonge@notredame.org with any questions
Sophomore Retreat
On Thursday, April 12, Notre Dame's sophomores went on an in-house retreat. The theme was New Life and reflected the joy of the Easter season. Topics ranged from The Shroud of Turin to overcoming loss to creating strong and lasting friendships. Mr. St.Onge asked students to figure out what they believe and why they believe it, while Fr. Cipriani encouraged students to meet the challenges life brings with hopeful faith. It was a challenging and rewarding retreat!
Upperclassmen leaders for this retreat were; Juniors - Juliette Rivera, Zach Dobbins, Aly Furgiuele, Allison Rohr, Evan Yiannoulis, Mike King and Sal Sereno; Seniors - David Malvicini, Mike Martinsky, Daniel Tozzi, Theo Tumba, Medjine Jean-Jacques, Jacqueline Rzasa, Morgan Cianelli, Victoria Schnaufer, Molly Verderame, Bianka Bell, Meghan Cassidy, Mary Boyle and Margie Kuntz.

French Honor Society Food Drive a Success
Members of the ND French Honor Society would like to send their deepest thanks to everyone who participated in their school-wide food collection during Lent. Because of your generosity, they were able to accomplish what they set out to do...and more! Two Norwalk families received both a complete Easter Breakfast Basket and a complete Easter Dinner Basket and a box of staples to help in the coming weeks. In addition, two food pantries each received three boxes stuffed with non-perishable "essentials"! MERCI BEAUCOUP!

Sister Marion Reilly Scholarship Applications
Members of the current freshmen, sophomore and junior classes are invited to apply for the Sister Marion Reilly Scholarship. This $2,000 scholarship is awarded to three students with qualifications based upon Christian dedication, excellence in leadership, academic endeavor, service to school and community, and participation in the arts and extra curricular activities. This year's Junior Prom will be held on April 27 at Grassy Hill Country Club in Orange from 7 pm to 11 pm. Tickets cost $70 per person. The last day to purchase tickets is Wednesday,
April 25.

 The West Haven Child Development Center (a 501(c)(3) pre-school and early childhood care facility for West Haven residents) is putting together a LIVE theater production of Eleanor Estes' book, The Hundred Dresses, which touches upon the heated topic of bullying. The show is being produced by The West Haven Child Development Center, at West Haven High School auditorium on Saturday, May 19 (2:00 pm and 6:00 pm performances) and is being directed by Lara Morton of Shoreline Psychodrama. At this time there are a couple of remaining roles to fill: A male to play Jack Beggles (he should look young - no older than 12 or so), a male to play Jake Petronsky (he can be age 13-15 or so), a female to play the announcer role and any females who wish to understudy roles. Boys LAX - Weekend Play Update
The boys' lacrosse team was challenged against the Joel Barlow Falcons last weekend. The Lancers hung tough while battling against the 2011 state runner-up. The action was fast and the Lancers consistently worked hard and displayed spirit on the field. The Lancers played an excellent game, driving to the goal on offense, on transition, and playing stout defense. While the Falcons handed the Lancers their first loss of the season, extraordinary skill was shown by Duncan Plumb '13 (#28) by racking up the most shots and, in the net for Notre Dame, Andres Rosales '15 (#8) had ten saves.
Mohegan Sun Casino Bus Trip
Join us for a bus trip to the Mohegan Sun Casino on Sunday, April 29. To reserve a spot, please contact Andrene DeFilippo via email at Rodchick7@aol.com by Wednesday, April 25. Payment will secure seating. Checks should be made payable to Notre Dame High School.
Tickets are $40 per person and includes round trip transportation to the casino, a $15 meal coupon, a $15 wheel bet and complimentary coffee and pastry. Proceeds will go to the ND Baseball program. The bus will depart ND at 9:15 am and return at 7:00 pm.

2012-13 Financial Aid Forms
Financial aid forms are now available for the 2012-13 school year. All families must re-apply for financial aid annually. Forms must be submitted by April 15, 2012. Late applications will not be considered. To download a form, click here. Forms can be submitted as soon as your 2011 federal tax returns are completed.

Guidance Department Update
Attention Juniors and Parents - All juniors will be completing the ACT on Tuesday, April 24 during the school day. There is no fee for this testing and students do not need to register for this exam.
The May 5th SAT is taking place at Notre Dame. Students DO need to register for this test at www.collegeboard.org. If the ND testing site is full, students should select the next closest high school or come to Guidance for a paper form to go on the stand-by list.
Pre-College Program Offered
Skidmore's Pre-College Program is a summer experience for highly motivated and talented high school students. The 5-week program offers students the opportunity to engage in college-level study in the liberal and studio arts with distinguished Skidmore faculty. Students can:
- Earn college credit
- Take a liberal arts course, a studio arts course, or one of each
- Live in a college residence hall
- Join a vibrant summer community of artists, writers, and scholars
- Meet students from across the country and around the world
Recognized nationally as a new Ivy League college, Skidmore is a highly selective liberal arts college in upstate New York. The Pre-College Program runs from Saturday, June 30 through Saturday, August 4, 2012. Applications should be submitted by May 15. The financial aid application deadline is April 16.

Special Program Held at Bridgeport Public Library
The Bridgeport Public Library is having a series of zombie survival workshops that will take place in the Teen Café of the Bridgeport Public Library beginning this month. This fun and informative program is open to teens in grades 7-12.

The Notre Dame Bob Shea Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on June 25, 2012 at the Redding Country Club in Redding. Pre-College Program at Sacred Heart University
Members of the Classes of 2013 and 2014 are invited to apply for Sacred Heart University's Pre-College High School Summer Program this July. Fifteen college credit courses in subjects ranging from Financial Accounting to Marketing in Fashion to Effective Speaking are being offered. Each course is $1,035. The Kiwanis Club of Fairfield 2012 High School Scholarship applications are available in the Guidance Office. All seniors are encouraged to submit an application for this scholarship by May 1, 2012. |

Orders are now being taken for 2012 Yearbooks. The cost is $75 and orders can be placed by clicking here. Students may also bring a check for $75 to the main office to reserve a copy. Yearbooks arrive in May. Only 51 yearbooks remain available for pre-order. Get yours before they sell out!
