American Red Cross Blood Drive Update

The American Red Cross blood drive held at Notre Dame last Friday was a tremendous success. Thanks to the efforts of all involved, Notre Dame was able to surpass its donation target and collect a total of 48 units of blood. A special thank you goes out to the Notre Dame faculty, staff, students and parents who donated their blood, and to the National Honor Society students who donated their time and energy volunteering for a great cause.

Volunteers Honored

Marianne Cassidy and Denise Frank were honored by Notre Dame and the Connecticut Association of Schools at a banquet at the Aqua Turf on Tuesday evening. Marianne has volunteered at Notre Dame since 2005 -- including serving as Vice President of the Booster Club, chaperoning Campus Ministry projects, and serving on our Strategic Plan Steering Committee. Denise has chaperoned ten Appalachia trips and this summer's trip to Kentucky will make number eleven. All of the volunteers who help Notre Dame are tremendously appreciated and special thanks to Marianne and Denise for their many years of service to our community.

Campus Ministry Update

Convivio

Last weekend, thirty-five Notre Dame students joined 330 other teenagers at a spiritually enlightening weekend called Convivio. Participants came from places as close as Fairfield and as far away as Texas, Colorado, and Nebraska. The three day retreat took place from March 9-11 at Sacred Heart University. It was a weekend filled with prayer, reflection, small groups, talks, good food and lots of fun and games. The theme this year was "Freedom: It's Your Choice!". By Sunday, our students learned the true meaning of Freedom and were ready to share what they learned with the world.

Mr. St. Onge was the Master of Ceremonies throughout the weekend and Fr. Cipriani assisted with confessions on Saturday.

The following students were trained as Group Leaders for the weekend: Geissy Bitencourt '12, Michael Lenard '13, Mary Boyle '12, Kevin Bradley '14, and Alex Audet '12. The following students participated in the weekend: David Malvicini '12, Michael Martinsky '12, Corinna Santos '12, Brendan Wardlow '13, Tyler Toto '12, Myles Marinez-Shields '14, Victor Olivares '12, Medjine Jean-Jacques '12 , RJ Cremin '13, Daniela Hurtado '14, Taylor Chavez '13, Lauren Puskar '13, Daniel Tozzi '12, Jessica Haray '14, Shannan Williams '14, Kerri Moffat '12, Mario Nunes '15, Nick Beecher '15, Juliette Rivera '13, Roberto Tomassini '12, Sam DeMattio '15, Andrew Chimento '15, Laurel Mason '14, Kevin Jouse '12, Fernando Olivares '13, Nadif Pommills '13, Kelsey Senteio '12, Theo Tumba '12, Antonio Cuevas '15, and Emmett Whelan '13.

Junior Class Retreat

Last week, Catholic speaker Bryan Mercier came to Notre Dame to lead the junior class retreat.  Students heard talks on the existence of God and the love of Christ, played some fun games of Giant/Wizard/Elf, and spent time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.  Many students were deeply impacted by the experience; students went to confession, prayed with Bryan, and sat together in silence before the Eucharist.  Fr. Cipriani and Mr. St. Onge thank everyone who participated for making the event a true experience of God's grace.
