French Students Celebrate La Chandaleur

From left to right: Maurice Wallace, Steven Son Son, Philip Senat and Geissy Bitencourt

Mme. Zac's French classes recently celebrated the Catholic holiday of Candlemas. The feast is to commemorate the purification of the Virgin Mary and the presentation of baby Jesus. In France, this holiday is called la Chandeleur, Fête de la Lumière, or Jour des Crêpes ... Crêpe Day! All enjoyed fruit-stuffed crêpes ... à la française!

Art Club Visits SHU Art Gallery

On Tuesday, members of the ND Art Club visited the SHU Art Gallery. Sophia Gevas, Gallery Director, introduced the exhibit - 39 Polish Posters that emphasized Polish "street life" in the 1970s and 1980s. The posters originally functioned as "town criers" as well as works of art. They energized Polish citizens during harsh communistic times and also informed them about cultural events.

The Art Club meets every Tuesday afternoon in rooms 302A and 304B. All are welcome to join!

American Red Cross Blood Drive

The National Honor Society will be sponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive on Friday, March 9th. The blood drive will take place in the Notre Dame gym from 7:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m, with the goal of collecting 40 units of blood. Blood donors must be at least 17 years of age by March 9th and must meet the height and weight requirements set by the Red Cross.

Over the next two weeks, NHS members will be working hard to recruit donors. At this time, priority will be given to students, faculty, and staff who wish to donate blood. If all appointments are not filled by the week prior to the blood drive, Notre Dame families will be welcomed to sign up for donation.

For general information on blood donation, please visit the Red Cross website at www.redcrossblood.org. For questions about the blood drive at Notre Dame, please contact NHS advisor Jennifer Mercado at mercado@notredame.org.
