Congratulations to...

... Meghan Cassidy '12, the Notre Dame recipient of the St. Thomas Aquinas Award. Recipients are selected based upon their excellence in academics and for also exemplifying the Gospel Values we are called to in our Catholic faith through service to others and Christ-like behavior. Meghan, along with her parents Jay and Marianne Cassidy, were honored at the Breakfast of Champions at the Catholic Center on Thursday.
After receiving her award, Meghan poses for a picture
with her family,  Dr. Dames, Bishop Lori and Mr. Cipriano.

Campus Ministry

Students, Father Cip and Mr. St. Onge stop for a picture with Bishop Lori
Leaving on the late shift Sunday night, a group of Notre Dame students boarded a coach bus and drove through the early morning hours to Washington, DC to attend the March for Life on Monday, January 23.  The event, which was attended by over 100,000 people from all over the country, began with a Youth Rally and Mass at the DC Armory.  Afterwards, students took a brisk walk in cold and damp conditions to the march route then made their way to the Supreme Court building. Along the way, they met Bishop Lori and posed for a quick picture. It was at the Supreme Court building in January, 1972 that the Roe v. Wade decision to legalize abortion took place.  It was a peaceful march and despite being very cold and very tired, the students had lots of fun. Students who attended the March were Morgan Sweeney '15, Caitlin Lonergan '15, Nick Dupuis '12, Tori Samatulski '15, Megan Gless '14, Megan Pace '12, Mary Boyle '12, Jillian Gelmetti '14, Jacqueline Rzasa '12, Rachel Dorosh '12, Ashley Fulton '13, Connor Terry '12, Molly Verderame '12, Jordan D'Aurio '12, Geissy Bitencourt '12, Mary Kate Vicenzi '12, Michael Foster '12, Patrick Phelan '12, Brianna Foster '14, Jessica Ramos '13 and Shannan Williams '14.

Parent/Guardian Appreciation

As part of Catholic Schools Week and as a small token of our appreciation for your support of Notre Dame High School, parents and guardians are invited to stop by Notre Dame between 7:00 and 9:00 am on Wednesday, February 1 for bagels, muffins, coffee and juice. No RSVP is needed.

Science Grant Received
Notre Dame has been awarded a science grant from the Sanofi Pasteur Company.  This grant will provide new science equipment for our Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Forensic Science classes. Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccines division of Sanofi-Aventis Group, is the largest company in the world devoted entirely to human vaccines.  We are very grateful for their support of the Notre Dame Science Department.

Forensic Science Update

Forensic Science students continue to enhance their CSI skills.   Crime scene reconstruction of Blood Spatter Pattern Analysis was conducted in the forensic science lab this week. Taylor Springer '13, Laura Pekar '13 and MacKenzie Stone '13 (left) examine a vile of artificial blood to be used for the simulations. On the right, PJ DeFilippo '13, Justin Bennett '13 and Erik Laaksonen '13 set up an angle support spatter board apparatus.

Man vs. The Machine

The art classes and computer classes participated in a Man vs. Machine competition. Students in Mr. Testani's art classes were asked to take a painting from the Renaisance era, The School of Athens by Raphael, and divide the image into sections for each student to paint individually. Students in Mr. Manzo's computer classes were asked to do the same using Photoshop. The result is hanging in the hallway near the computer lab (203) where there is information on each piece with a chart that identifies each student who completed an area of the image.

Stop & Shop's A+ School Rewards Program

ND has the opportunity to earn cash through Stop & Shop's A+ School Rewards Program.  All you have to do is click here or call (877) 275-2758 to register your card.

After you register your card, each shopping trip at Stop & Shop using your Stop & Shop Card earns cash for our school! Each month, the amount of cash awarded will be updated on the Stop & Shop website. You can track the amount of points you earn for our school by checking your grocery receipt and online when you create an account at www.stopandshop.com.

Remember, even if you registered your card last year, you must re-register this year for our school to receive credit. Attending to this simple process makes a huge difference to our school. We need your support. Please be sure to register your card to benefit Notre Dame (using ID #05808).

Also, don't forget to encourage your friends and relatives to do the same. Thanks for supporting Notre Dame!
