Notre Dame-Sacred Heart University Partnership
In case you missed the big announcement this week, Notre Dame has entered into a partnership with our neighbor, Sacred Heart University that will provide capital improvements to the high school and academic assistance to the students and faculty. Through the partnership, SHU and NDHS will be working together to enhance the high school's athletic fields and bring wireless technology to its classrooms. Notre Dame students, faculty and staff will also have use of the newly renovated Ryan Matura Library at Sacred Heart University. In addition, Sacred Heart will provide a 50% tuition discount to academically qualified Notre Dame graduates who attend SHU full time. We are very excited about this partnership and the tremendous opportunities that exist for Notre Dame and our students.

Notre Dame recently unveiled its new logo. The school seal will still be used for formal documents (such as diplomas) and the Lancer logo will be used on athletic uniforms and other casual clothing. We are excited about this new logo, especially coming on the heels of the Sacred Heart Partnership announcement and the release of our new Strategic Plan.

Notre Dame offices will be open on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, December 27-29 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Classes and normal school hours will resume on Tuesday, January 3.

Thank You From the Key Club
The Key Club wishes to thank everyone who brought in toys for the Christmas Toy Drive. An entire car of toys was brought to Sr. Theresa and the Sisters of Charity for their Christmas Party. Sister was elated with the toys and told us that she wished she was a child again. She is most grateful for the support that she receives from the Notre Dame Community. |

Students in Mr. Sakal's 100th Physics Class pose before a bulletin board of their academic pedigree. This is derived from the academic genealogy where doctoral student -teacher transcendence was documented through the ages. Mr. Sakal altered this practice by linking direct student-teacher connections. The 100th Physics class discovered that they share the same academic lineage as Newton, Galileo, Leibniz, Bernoulli, Euler, Gauss, Huygens, and Fermi - to name a few well known scientists.
The members of Mr. Sakal's 100th Physics class include: Seniors: Alex Audet, Bianka Bell, Megan Cassidy, Gina DeSimone, Rachel Dorosh, Spencer Gerwien, Margaret Kuntz, Erica Lane, David Malvicini, Michael Martinsky, Kerry Moffatt, Victor Olivares, Stefan Pietrobono, Jacqueline Rzasa, Victoria Schnaufer, Steven Son Son, Mary Kate Vincenzi and Mourice Wallace.

Mid-Term exams will begin on Friday, January 13 and end on Friday, January 20. Two exams per day will be given. The exam schedule is determined by class periods this year. Period B & C exams will be given on January 13, Periods D & E on January 17, Periods F & G on January 18 and Period H on January 19. January 20 will serve as a make-up exam day.
The first exam will begin at 7:50 a.m. and the second exam at 9:35 a.m. Busing will be provided before school and after the second exam ends at 11:05 a.m. If students only have the first exam of the day, they can leave after the exam - if they drive or if they are picked up. If they only have the second exam of the day, they must arrive at school by 9:30 a.m. If students take Notre Dame busing and only have one exam, they can study in the cafeteria during their free time.
In the event of a snow day, exams are pushed off one day. In the event of a delayed opening, the first exam will be given at 10:00 am, concluding at 11:30, with the second exam running from 11:45 am to 1:15 pm.
Mid-Term exams count as ten percent of the final class average. Students must be present on their exam days. Permission must be granted by the administration for a make-up exam.

Richard "Duke" LaTorre Memorial Scholarship
In October, Notre Dame lost a long time teacher, colleague and friend, Mr. Richard LaTorre. Richard taught at Notre Dame for 42 years and served as our Business Manager and Math Department Chairperson. To honor Richard's memory and life-long commitment to Notre Dame and Catholic education, a scholarship has been set up in his name. A donor has come forward with an amazing challenge ... all donations received by December 31, 2011 will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $25,000. Please help us reach our goal of fully maximizing this match and outstanding opportunity. No gift is too small. To make a donation, contact Theresa Marzik in the Advancement Office. |
Are you a current Notre Dame parent and also an ND alum? Please contact our Alumni Office at marzik@notredame.org with your name (including maiden name), graduation year & student's name.
