Thank You for Your Generosity
We would like to thank everyone who generously donated turkeys and food to our Thanksgiving food drive. We were able to donate 140 turkeys and 75 bags of canned and boxed food to Sr. Theresa and the Sisters of Charity for their mission. Many thanks for your generous spirit. We are currently collecting unwrapped toys for newborn-12 years old. Students may bring these donations to Miss Z in room 102. Again, thank-you so much for your generosity and have a happy Thanksgiving.

Forensic Science students continue to enhance their CSI skills. Last week forensic toxicology was covered in lab. Students learned how to evaluate a Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry analysis for confirmatory tests of an unknown substance. Labs included comparing chemical and physical properties to unknown substances to determine the molecular make up. Forensic students will continue to add additional skills needed to solve a wide variety of testing.
Above: Katie Yellen '13 performs a presumptive forensic screening of an unknown substance while Mr. Sakal demonstrates to forensics students how to enhance their CSI skills in toxicology.

French 4 Celebrates St. Catherine's Day
The French 4 class celebrated St. Catherine's Day on Tuesday, November 22. The tradition began during the Middle Ages, in which the women, who were around 25 years old, would pray to St. Catherine for a husband. During the holiday, the women would make extravagant hats, usually decorated with the colors green or yellow, and then parade and wear them for the rest of the day, hoping they'd find a husband. These women are usually known as Catherinettes and even make small cookies known as Cattern Cakes.
The students celebrated this day with the girls making their own extravagant hats and with the boys being judges. Small awards were handed out for the most unique, funny, simple and elegant hats. Some of the winners were Medjine Jean-Jacques '12 for most unique hat, Geissy Bitencourt '12 for the funniest hat, and it was a tie between Meghan Cassidy '12 and Mary Boyle '12 for the most elegant hat. After the fashion show and judging were over, everyone enjoyed some Cattern Cakes, made by David Malvicini '12.
