Notre Dame Fall Open House
Notre Dame's fall Open House for prospective students will be held this Sunday, October 16 at 2:00 pm. Tours will be offered starting at 1:00 p.m. Please spread the word and encourage friends and family to attend. An entrance exam for eighth grade applicants will be given on Saturday, October 22 at 8:30 am. We are excited that the number of applications received to date, compared to last year, is up over 15 percent. We take this to be a very positive sign for our next freshman class. Please contact the Admissions Office at (203) 372-6521 or admissions@notredame.org for further information regarding Open House or the entrance exam.

ND Mourns the Loss of Mr. Richard LaTorre
The entire Notre Dame community mourns the loss of Mr. Richard "Duke" LaTorre, who died peacefully, surrounded by family and his many friends on Wednesday. Richard was a graduate of Notre Dame High School, Class of 1965, and Sacred Heart University, Class of 1969. He was a Math teacher at Notre Dame since 1969. Richard currently served as Chairperson of the Math Department, Business and Financial Manager, and Bookstore Manager at Notre Dame. He was an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Sacred Heart University for 34 years. Richard was truly dedicated to Notre Dame, its students, and its mission. He will be truly missed by all.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., meeting DIRECTLY at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Park Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends may call Monday 3 - 8 p.m. in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull. Those who so desire, may make contributions in Richard's memory to the Richard "Duke" LaTorre Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Notre Dame Catholic High School.

On Tuesday, October 11, members of Campus Ministry accompanied Fr. Cipriani and Mr. St. Onge to a Bishop's Dinner for young men at the Saint John Fisher Seminary in Stamford. It was an evening of good prayer and good fellowship with over 50 other young men from various schools and parishes in the diocese. In attendance from Notre Dame were Charlie Fallon '14, Michael Lenard '13, Kevin Bradley '14, Samuel DeMattio '15.

Notre Dame will be holding our annual Family Service Day on Saturday, October 29. This day is a chance for Notre Dame families to come together and serve the wider community. There will be numerous service opportunities available for students and their families. The approximate length of the day is from 8 am to 1 pm. Please contact Mr. St.Onge for more information.

Our annual Walkathon will now take place on Friday, October 21. Don't forget to send in your walk-a-thon donations. We need everyone's help to make this year's event a success! All students are asked to raise $75 in pledge donations. All donations should be brought to Mrs. Marzik's office no later than Thursday, October 20. We are looking for 100% participation from our families for this very important fundraiser.
Walk-a-thon/Spirit T-shirts have arrived and were distributed to the students this week. We have a limited number of shirts still available for purchase in Mrs. Marzik's office. They are $10 each.

 The Key Club will be sponsoring the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF program this year. UNICEF has joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus from the face of the Earth. More than 100 million women of child bearing age need to be vaccinated. Roughly $1.80 will provide the three vaccine doses and other activities needed to protect a mother and her future newborns from this painful and deadly disease. Key Club members will be collecting money during the lunch periods from Wednesday, October 19 through Wednesday, November 2. If any family would like to contribute to the UNICEF program please contact the Key Club co-moderators Mrs. Claudia Miller or Ms. Sherrie Zembrzuski.
The Key Club's Thanksgiving Turkey Drive will be starting in November. The Key Club is responsible for collecting 300 frozen turkeys for needy area families. If you see a great sale or get a free turkey from work, please keep us in mind. If you would like to donate a frozen turkey please email Mrs. Miller or Ms. Zembrzuski. The drop-off date is yet to be determined.

The Home School Association will be sponsoring a clothing drive fundraiser on Saturday, October 15 from 8 am - 3 pm. Clean out those closets and bring in your used (and clean) clothing, shoes and accessories. All items should be put into tied plastic garbage bags. Notre Dame will receive thirteen cents for every pound collected. Tell your friends, family and neighbors. If you have any questions, please contact our Home School President, Jennifer Searles.

SAVE THE DATE! The ND Booster Club is having a wine tasting on Saturday, December 3 from 7-10 pm. Gather up a bunch of your friends and join us for a fun night. This is a great way to start off the holiday season. Wine makes great hostess gifts for those festive holiday get togethers! Beer will also be available to taste. Everyone welcome! Athletic Department Update
Girls' Basketball Conditioning
The girls' basketball staff is running a strength and conditioning program every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 pm through Thursday, November 20. All girls interested in basketball are welcome.
Winter Sport Sign -Ups
Any student interested in Boys' Basketball, Girls' Basketball, Bowling or Indoor Track are asked to sign-up in Mr. Bleggi's office (Room 201).

The Care Club has two projects going until Thanksgiving. In conjunction with the Lions' Club we are collecting used eyeglasses, frames and cases. They will be given to people in need.
Both items can be left in boxes in the library.
Once again, we are collecting cell phones. They will be reconstructed to 911 and given to women and men whose lives may be in danger. Our drive two years ago was highly successful and we hope to see a repeat.

ND's Lancer Legacy Gala & Auction
Notre Dame's Lancer Legacy Gala & Auction will take place on November 9 at The Waterview in Monroe. Invitations have been mailed and we hope you are able to attend this important and special event!
The night will include a silent auction as well as a cocktail hour, dinner and an awards program honoring Stephen and Mary Ann Nemergut - Carole Christy Surina Educator Award, Dr. Margaret Dames - Sister Marion Rielly Leadership Award, William Roberti - Notre Dame Community Impact Award, and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees - Paul Fabbri, Evan Bowen, Randy Gress, and Juan Serrano.
The Gala/Auction Committee is looking for auction donations. Items on their wishlist include:
Gift cards to area stores and restaurants, gas gift cards, airfare gift cards, ipad II, Mac or PC laptop, Ferry tickets, wine, Kindle or Nook 2, Broadway tickets, Chef demonstrations/tastings or cooking lessons, hotel stays, NYC restaurant or hotel gift certificates, professional sports tickets, books signed by the author, Foxwoods and/or Mohegan Sun hotel stays, vacation getaways, use of timeshares, concert tickets...
We are also looking for area businesses to sponsor our event or purchase ad space in our program book. Also, please don't forget that we are asking each family to donate $10 toward a class basket. We will be making a theme basket for each of the four classes: freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior. These baskets will make a great addition to our silent auction.
Participation from all families will be the key to our success. Please take a little time to think what you would like to do to make this a wonderful evening. We will be accepting auction items, sponsorships and program ads any time between now and November 1. The earlier the better!
