Back to School Night
Thank you to the parents and guardians who attended Back to School Night on Wednesday evening. It was a great turnout. If you were unable to attend and need some information from your child's teachers, feel free to email them with any questions. Special thanks to Parents Association President Jen Searles who provided the baked goods for the evening.
Advisory Program
The Notre Dame community held its first Advisory session for the 2011-12 school year. These groups of ten to twelve students plus a faculty advisor will meet twice a month to discuss a variety of topics. This week's session covered an introduction of each advisory group member and an explanation of the program. The mission of the advisory program is: "...to connect students to an adult advocate, connect students to other students, and to better connect students with their school." We are very excited about this new program and its many benefits.
Dress Down Day Fundraiser
The Notre Dame community had a dress down day on Friday, September 16. Each student, faculty and staff member paid $2 to dress down. The money collected is being sent to support a memorial being built in Queens, New York to honor the 343 firefighters who died on September 11. Fr. Bill Sangiovanni's cousin, Christopher Santoro, was one of these firefighters who died and his family is raising the funds to build this memorial.
Campus Ministry
Notre Dame celebrated its Opening Mass of the school year on Friday, September 9.  At Mass, the Notre Dame community marked the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks with a special procession and the singing of America The Beautiful.  Fr. Sangiovanni and Fr. Cipriani celebrated Mass, and Fr. Cipriani's homily was dedicated to the memory of the heroic firefighters and police officers who lost their lives on September 11th.  Mary Boyle '12 and Greg Ferris '14 were altar servers, Medjine Jean-Jacques '12, Michael Lenard '13, Allison Rohr '13, and Brendan Wardlow '13 were readers, and
Morgan Cianelli '12, Amanda Marini '12, Jordan D'Aurio '12, Shirley Virgile '12, Caitlin Dudek '13, Jasmine Barrada '12, Matt Heim '13, and Rachel Shea '12 were gift bearers in the special procession. The Notre Dame Chorus, led by Dr. Mary Callaghan and Mr. Joshua St.Onge, provided music for the Mass.
Notre Dame Billboard
Anyone traveling south on I-95 in Stratford probably has noticed the Notre Dame billboard with our new marketing slogan: "Building Character, Faith and Intellect". Be sure to spread the word about our Open House to be held on Sunday, October 16 at 2:00 p.m.
Ed-Line Update
The first Ed-line reports will be posted this weekend for all students. Teachers will also be posting homework on a regular basis (not daily, though) this year. If you did not receive an Ed-line log-in at Back to School Night and are new to the school this year, one will be mailed home to you.
French Honor Society
The ND French Honor Society recently held its annual election of officers for the 2011 - 2012 academic year!  The officers are: President: Meghan Cassidy '12; Vice-President: Mary Boyle '12; Secretary: Kelsey Senteio '12; Treasurer: Maurice Wallace '12; Publicity: Alex Audet '12 and David Malvicini '12; Communications: Jhennelle Lee '12, Geissy Bitencourt '12, Mary-Kate Vicenzi '12, Philip Senat '12, and Steven Sonson '12.

Lancer Legacy Gala and Auction

The Lancer Legacy Gala and Auction will take place on Wednesday, November 9 at the Waterview in Monroe.  Participation from all families will be the key to our success. A variety of ways have been developed for all of our families to participate in planning, supporting, and attending the event. The following offers an easy list of how you can make our event a success:
  • Please mark your calendar now for Wednesday, November 9, 2011 and respond with your intent to join us via a formal invitation that will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead.
  • Contribute a minimum of $10 per child toward a "Class Basket" that is being specifically designed as an auction item per class.
  • Donate an item for our auction. Creativity is the key. An item can vary from a gift certificate/card to your favorite restaurant or store to sporting tickets. Some ideas to consider are sports/theatre/concert tickets, handmade items, timeshares, etc. Think of the kind of items you would like to bid on and take home! For this event to be successful, we must have 100% participation.
  • Consider showing your pride and support for Notre Dame Fairfield by placing an ad in our Gala program book or by becoming one of our evening sponsors.
  • Encourage a business (gas station, hair salon, dentist, doctor, etc.) that you frequent to place an ad in our Gala program book.

Please take a little time to think what you would like to do to make this a wonderful evening. We will be accepting auction items and program ads any time between now and November 1st. The earlier the better!  For more information or if you have any questions, please contact Theresa Marzik at 203-372-6521 or marzik@notredame.org.
