Congratulations to...
 ... Meghan Cassidy '12 and Alex Audet '12, who were selected as Notre Dame's nominees for the Barnum Festival queen and king. Each area high school nominates two students to the festival's "Royal Family". A panel of judges selects the winning candidates who will participate in the 63rd annual Barnum Festival in Bridgeport from April-July. Marcus Ortiz '11 and Jonathan Cruz '10 were the 2010 and 2009 Barnum Festival Kings. ...  the following students who were named Students of the Month for March: Joe Shillinglaw '11, Alexis Restivo '12, Madeline Guman '13, Charles Fallon '14.
... Scott Barrese '11 who recently participated in the St. Philip Church annual 30 Hour Famine. Students went without food for thirty hours and raised funds for the challenge of world hunger and the lack of clean water.
 ... Ben Viccari '11 who was named News 12 Connecticut Scholar-Athlete of the Week on March 14. Ben was interviewed, along with Mr. Bleggi and Mr. Cipriano, and was selected based upon his academic achievement and athletic talents on the hockey team.
... the Notre Dame Cheerleaders for placing 3rd in the Class S  State Competition in New Haven. The cheerleaders will be competing in the New England Regional Competiton in Providence, RI this weekend. Good Luck girls !!!
... to Kayla Frosceno '11 for being chosen as an All-State Class S cheerleader. This is Kayla's second consecutive year as an All-State cheerleader. ... to Eric Sugrue '11 for being selected to the CHSCA All-State hockey second team. ... To the boy' basketball team on a great year!

Notre Dame Welcomes Bishop Lori
On Tuesday, March 15, Notre Dame welcomed Bishop Lori to Notre Dame. The Bishop celebrated mass for the school community, along with Fr. Bill and Fr. Cipriani. At the end of mass, Student Council President Brittany Perez '11 presented the Bishop with a Notre Dame sweatshirt and hat, along with a check to be donated to a charity of his choice. In addition, an oversized card signed by the faculty and staff was given to the Bishop in celebration of his 10th anniversary as Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport. Following mass, the Bishop met with a group of fifteen students.

Blood Drive Success
On Friday, March 11, the National Honor Society along with Miss Mercado sponsored the Red Cross Blood Drive. We had 52 students, faculty and staff participate in the blood drive and the Red Cross ended up collecting 39 pints of blood. Thank you to all of the National Honor Society students for helping out, whether at breakfast or during the actual blood drive. Additionally, between the breakfast held on Friday morning and the donations from our Dress Down Day, over $1,300.00 was raised. This money will go directly to the American Red Cross efforts to help those affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Convivio Weekend
Thirty-one Notre Dame students joined 280 fellow teenagers at a spiritually enlightening weekend called Convivio. Participants came from places as close as Fairfield and as far away as Texas, Colorado and Ecuador. The three day retreat took place from March 11-13 at Sacred Heart University. It was a weekend filled with prayer, reflection, small groups, talks, good food and lots of fun and games. The theme this year was "Let Us Be the Light for the World". By Sunday, our students were ready to go out into the world shining Christ's light.
Mr. St. Onge was the Master of Ceremonies and Fr. Cipriani assisted with mass and confessions throughout the weekend. Ash Wednesday Prayer Service
Our school kicked of the season of Lent with a prayer service on Ash Wednesday, March 9. With Fr. Cipriani, students lead the service with a Teenager Stations of the Cross, reading meditations and holding the picture at each station. After receiving ashes, the prayer service concluded with a slide show of numerous campus ministry activities of the last few years. With the song, "Man in the Mirror" playing in the background, the slide show motivated everyone to go out into the world spreading their faith, especially through community service.
A special word of thanks to Mr. Stone and Mr. Manzo for handling the tech work. A very special word of thanks to Ms. Medoff for putting together the prayer service slide show.

St. Patrick's Day Celebration
On March 17, Campus Ministry helped St. Augustine School' s second graders celebrate St. Patrick's Day by going to see Jack and the Beanstalk at the Downtown Cabaret and then eating lunch and watching the Bridgeport parade. Notre Dame Honors Volunteers
On Tuesday, March 15, Notre Dame participated in the Connecticut Association of Schools Volunteer Recognition  Banquet at the Aqua Turf in Southington. Recognized for their many years of dedicated service and volunteer work to Notre Dame were: Dorrine Sopko, Marianne Spinelli, Kathy Stefenatos and Debbie Tietjen. All four women have had or will have students graduate from Notre Dame. The entire community appreciates their tremendous efforts on behalf of the students and school.

Sister Marion Rielly Scholarship
Applications are now available for the Sister Marion Rielly Scholarship for current freshmen, sophomores and juniors. Qualifications for this $2,000 scholarship include: Christian dedication, Excellence in leadership, Academic endeavor, Service to school and community, Participation in the arts, Extra-curricular participation. Applications are available in the main office and are due by Wednesday, May 25, 2011.

College Night
A college night will be held at Trinity Catholic High School on Wednesday, March 23 from 6:30 to 8:30 in the school gymnasium. Over 60 colleges will be attending. Summer Design Program Opportunity
The Shintaro Akatsu School of Design at the University of Bridgeport will be sponsoring a design program for high school students this summer (July 11-15 and 18-22). Students will use UB's state-of-the-art design facilities, work with professional faculty and an energetic student community to provide an in-depth college preparation and portfolio building experience. Classes will be designed to help students explore all areas of art and design, from drawing to photography, to computer graphics and 3D model making. Each class will be constructed with the goal of producing portfolio-worthy samples. Scholarships may be available for students. Anyone interested in participating in the program should see Mr. Cipriano by March 31, 2011.

Teen Film Festival
The Easton Community Center is sponsoring a Teen Film Festival at the end of June. Area students are encouraged to submit films of up to 10 minutes in length by May 27. Complete information and entry forms can be found by clicking here.

Care Club
The Care Club's Lenten project began on Ash Wednesda y and we could use your assistance. We are looking for cell phones people no longer need - in good or even unusable condition. They will be reconditioned to 911 numbers and given (free of charge) to women who live in dangerous situations. If wires and battery packs are available, we accept them, also. Items can be left in the library. |

Tag Sale
Spring is almost here and that can only mean one thing -- it's time to start your spring cleaning. Clean out your closets, attic and garage and making money! The Notre Dame Drama Club will be hosting a Tag Sale on Saturday, April 9 from 8 am - 3 pm in the Notre Dame parking lot. Reserve an 8 foot table for $25 and keep the profits from your sales. Remember one man's trash is another man's treasure.
Character Breakfast
On Saturday, April 30 from 8:30 - 11:00 am the Notre Dame Drama Club will be sponsoring a Beauty and the Beast Character Breakfast. Tickets are $5.00. The children's menu will include cold cereal, french toast sticks, and munchkin donuts. The adult menu includes bagels and coffee. Spread the word and bring your young children, nieces, nephews, cousins, & grandchildren. Pictures with the cast will also be available.

 The Notre Dame Drama Club is proud to present Disney's Beauty and the Beast on Friday, May 6th (8 pm) and Saturday, May 7th (2 pm and 8 pm) at Sacred Heart University's Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are now on sale.

Clothing Drive Fundraiser
The Home School Association will be sponsoring a clothing drive fundraiser on Saturday, March 26th from 10-3. Clean out those closets and bring in your used (and clean) clothing, shoes and accessories. All items should be put into tied plastic garbage bags. Notre Dame will receive thirteen cents for every pound collected. Tell your friends, family and neighbors. Notre Dame's Annual Raffle
Raffle tickets were mailed home to each family. Prizes this year are something everyone can use: CASH! You could be the winner of $2,000, $1,000 or $500. Each family is asked to sell twenty tickets. Class of 2000 Fundraiser
The Class of 2000 is holding a fundraiser on April 29 at Murphy's Law in Bridgeport at 8 pm. The fundraiser is for the Tom Brown scholarship. A 2000 Notre Dame graduate, Tom was killed while serving in the military in Iraq. Food and drink specials will be offered. Donations will be taken at the door. |

2011 Better Business Bureau Student Award and Scholarship Award
The CT BBB Student Ethics Scholarship Award recognizes a secondary school student who personifies high ethical standards through leadership, community service, overall academic history and personal integrity. A panel of independent judges will select a Connecticut high school junior through evaluation of a written essay. The selected applicant will receive a $2,500.00 college scholarship.
