High School Engineering Academy

Notre Dame students continue to participate in the High School Engineering Academy, now in its third year of studies, thanks to the vision and determination of the Diocese of Bridgeport.  Launched in 2008, the HSEA addresses the lack of engineers in the United States, preparing students to be the most innovative and productive leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and to make meaningful, pioneering contributions to our world. Classes are held each Saturday at Notre Dame. The dedication and commitment made by these future science and technology leaders is tremendously impressive. 2010-11 Notre Dame participants include RJ Cremin '13, Charles Fallon '14, Michael Lenard '13 , Steven Meyer '13, Fernando Olivares '13, Victor Olivares '12, Webster Pierce '12, and Stefan Pietrobono '12.

New Parent Association President Named
Jen Searles has been named Notre Dame's new Parent Association President.  Jen is the mother of Anthony Searles '13.  Jen has many new ideas and exciting events planned for the remainder of the school year.  There will be a special Parent Association meeting on Thursday, February 17 at 7:00 pm in the ND library.  Stop by and meet Jen and have the opportunity to win a $100 gift certificate from Restaurant.com just by attending the meeting.  All parents and guardians are encouraged to attend this meeting.  The Parent Association is a great way  to get involved in the Notre Dame community.

A very special thank you to Lisa Gallucci, our outgoing Parent Association President.  Lisa has served as president for the past three years.  We are thankful for her years of dedication and service to the ND community.  Thank you Lisa!
Service Hours
All sophomores, juniors and seniors are required to complete a minimum of ten hours of community service each year. Freshmen complete their hours with a major class project in the spring. Upperclassmen must submit documentation of their service hours to Ms. Medoff by Friday, March 18. A pass/fail grade will be included on report cards beginning with the third marking period. For further information on the community service program or to see a list of approved volunteer locations, click here.
Ed-Line Updates
With the late start of the third marking period due to the weather, the first Ed-Line update for parents and students will be issued for each class by this Sunday, February 13. Additional updates are scheduled for March 6 and March 20.
Key Club Daffodil Sale
Daffodil Days have begun!  If anyone is interested in purchasing daffodils from the American Cancer Society, please send in the order form with a check made payable to Notre Dame to Ms. Casceillo by February 28th.  The flowers will arrive March 14th-17th.
2011 Aquarian Environmental Champion Awards
Across our state, thousands of volunteers devote endless time and energy to protecting and restoring Connecticut's natural resources. Aquarion Water Company is looking to recognize the efforts of a student (or adult) who have spearheaded successful volunteer projects that have improved and protected our state's natural resources - its water, air, soil and plant and wildlife communities. For details and a nomination form, visit www.aquarion.com/environment.cfm. Nomination deadline is May 2, 2011.
Golf Tournament Meeting Planned
Plans are underway for Notre Dame's annual Bob Shea Golf Tournament.  The next planning meeting for the golf tournament will take place immediately following the Parent Association Meeting on Thursday, February 17 at 8:00 pm.  We need your help to make this year's tournament a success.  If you are unable to attend the meeting but would still like to help out, please contact Theresa Marzik at marzik@notredame.org.
From the Tuition Office
Any current family who needs to apply for financial aid should do so by May 1, 2011.  We will not be accepting any applications after this date.  Forms are available in the main office or on the ND web site.
Frank Carrano Memorial Scholarship
Mark your calendars ... please join us on Saturday, February 26 at the Milford Ice Pavilion at 7:00 p.m. for the Annual Frank Carrano Charity Hockey Game. On July 25, 1999, the Notre Dame community suffered a sudden loss with the death of Frank Carrano '99. Frank's mark will be forever with us - from the image of his smiling face, to his outgoing personality and his positive outlook, to his ability and desire to enjoy life to its fullest. Frank will further be remembered for his love of hockey and lacrosse and as tri-captain of the 1998-99 State Championship Ice Hockey Team. Frank impacted so many lives and the memory of #66 will always be with us.  To make a donation to the scholarship or for more information, visit our website.
