Walk-a-Thon Success
A very BIG thank you to everyone who participated in ND's Walk-a-thon and Field Day activities held on October 21.  This year's event was a success, raising $13,700 for our school.  The highest fundraiser was sophomore, Cameron Barquinero, second highest fundraiser was senior, Josh Hamel, and our third highest fundraiser was junior, Thomas Allen.  The top fundraising homeroom was Mr. Sweeney's HR - 309 who raised $1,297.  The day began with a four mile walk around the ND campus followed by our annual field day events which included musical chairs, tug-of-war, balloon toss, an obstacle course, and our ever-popular pie eating contest.  Classes competed against each other for bragging rights.  This year's winners were the seniors!  Thanks to our parent volunteers (Kathy Stefanatos, Marianne Cassidy, Jenn Searles, Jean Cronan, Ro Pekar, and Brittany Shkreli) and our very own President, Fr. Bill. Our concession stand was busy throughout the morning serving lots of great food.  Thanks also to other parent volunteers, Kathy Gerwein, Dorrine Sopko, Lee Anne Boyle, Natalie Campbell, and Margaret Riobo.  Congratulations to all our winners and thank you again to everyone for making this event so much fun and a great success!
Sister Marion Rielly Communion Breakfast and Mass
A special Mass and Communion Breakfast was held on Sunday, October 24 to welcome the newest members of our Notre Dame family as well as to celebrate and remember the legacy of former principal Sister Marion Rielly.  Sister Marion will long be remembered for her enthusiasm, her challenge to others, and her ability to touch the lives of so many.  After her death in 1983, the Sister Marion Rielly Memorial Fund was established to honor and commemorate her life.  Each year at the final assembly in June, three Notre Dame students (a Freshman, Sophomore and Junior) receive scholarship awards in Sister's memory.  Since its inception, over 80 young men and women have benefited from this scholarship fund.  This year's recipients, Deondra White '11, Alex Audet '12, and Steve Cavallo '13, were introduced by alumni and scholarship committee member, Perry Vincenzi '79Alex Audet addressed the attendees. Applications for the Sister Marion Scholarship will be available in February 2011.  Thank you to everyone who supported this year's event and a special welcome to all our new families.
Chris Waddell
On Thursday, the Notre Dame student body welcomed Chris Waddell to the school. Chris was a promising young skier at Middlebury College in 1988 when a skiing accident left him paralyzed from the waist down. Determined to get back on the slopes, he began skiing on a monoski roughly one year later. A little more than two years later, Waddell was named to the US Disabled Ski Team.

Chris went on to become the most decorated male skier in Paralympic history, winning twelve medals over four games, and spending a total of 11 years on the US Disabled Ski Team.  He is one of a few athletes to win medals in both summer and winter games. Last fall, Chris became the first paraplegic to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.  Chris spoke about his experiences and his message of "it isn't so much what happens to you ... but what you do with what happens to you." The entire student body and faculty were captivated by Chris' message and commitment to help others realize their true potential.

Junior Trip To Boston
On Tuesday, the junior class traveled to Boston for their annual trip. With ideal weather in the 70s, the group enjoyed a Duck Tour, a walking tour of the Freedom Trail, and lunch at Quincy Market. Everyone certainly had an enjoyable day.
ND Students in the News
Some of our students were featured in the Monday, October 25 edition of the Connecticut Post Neighbors section for their participation in the Out of the Darkness Walk.
