"I was able to get my life back.."
A message of thanks from a past resident Dear Sheryl,
A little over a year ago I was sleeping in my car. Today, I am sleeping in my adorable apartment! I am workin g at a job that I love which enables me to pay my rent and bills. I use my car to drive to and from work now, instead of as a living space.
Because of you and everyone at Cross Roads, I was able to get my life back and look to the future. I learned so much about myself and the world while I was there and at my age it was quite a shock!
Please convey my deepest thanks and gratitude to the staff and Chris and Dan.
I really don't know what I would have done without you and Cross Roads.
I hope to be in a position to someday pay it forward!
Ginny

Volunteers from Liberty Mutual in Dover
|
On one of the hottest days of the summer, six Liberty Mutual Insurance volunteers worked on the grounds of Cross Roads House as part of their company's nationwide "Serve with Liberty" day of service to non-profits. After a full day cleaning and sprucing up our grounds, Justin Goss relaxed with a cool bottle of water to discuss the day's experience with the rest of his volunteer team. He said, "It makes me proud that the people in my own community give back to the less fortunate in our area by having Cross Roads House available."
Liberty Team Leader Kristy Seid said, "None of us knew what it was like on the inside of a shelter. To see these facilities here and talk with the residents who are so grateful, is amazing. We learned that it (being homeless) could happen to any one of us at any time."
Katie Dicomes, who has been at Liberty Mutual for only two months, was struck by a resident she met while touring the facility before the work began. "It was wonderful to hear he was getting his old job back next week and that Cross Roads House was here to help him even in the short term."
In reflection, Bobbie Lee added to the group comments by saying, "After today, I'm more thankful for the job I have and for EVERYTHING I have now. It was an eye-opener for me."
Cross Roads House provides secure, emergency, and transitional shelter and a proven program that helps residents move with dignity and purpose to stable and decent housing.
