Special Message from the President!

It's not often enough that I get to thank my staff publicly, but since Reality Changers' VP of Communications is celebrating her birthday today, I've sneaked into our E-newsletter Center to send out a special message to honor all of the Reality Changers staff.

Marshela
Marshela Salgado is the longest-serving full-time member of my staff. Marshela single-handedly designs Reality Changers' full-color yearbooks that make the amazing stories of our students come alive.  She also coordinates every detail of "America's Finest," Reality Changers' premiere event that doubled in size over the past year to 1,300 attendees.  Simply put, our stories would not be told without our VP of Communications.  Thanks, Marshela!

Ivan
Ivan Perez is Reality Changers' VP of Operations.  (It was his birthday last week, too!)  I know that he gets tired of me saying this, but do you know of anyone else that maintained a 4.0 GPA from 8th grade through college graduation and served two year-long tours of duty in Afghanistan and Guatanamo Bay?  With his attention to detail and cool-under-fire demeanor, Ivan serves Reality Changers' students as proudly as he serves our country.  Thanks, Ivan!

Mary

Mary Taylor applied to be a program instructor last January, but by the end of the interview process, we hired her to run the whole program!  As the Director of College Apps Academy, Mary has ensured that Reality Changers will offer its high-intensity, high-results program for 12th graders at ten different locations throughout San Diego County this fall.  Now, more students than ever will be able to benefit from our college application strategies that produce an average of nearly $100,000 in college scholarships per low-income graduate.
Thanks, Mary!

Salina
Grads, it's official... Salina Villegas is Reality Changers' first Alumni Director!  Plans include having an active Alumni Association that supports our newest program graduates transition to college and helping you find meaningful internship/employment opportunities, as well.  And yes, we're even launching an "Alumni Scholarship Fund" so that grads can financially give back to the program that supported them, too.  In short, Salina (RC '08, Berkeley '12) wants to ensure that Reality Changers' growing number of academic superstars who have overcome life's most difficult circumstances can strengthen their network like never before.  Thanks, Salina!

All of Reality Changers' staff members have an incredible impact on the lives of inner-city students on a daily basis and I invite you to use the newest feature on our website (THANKS, Angela!) that allows you to get to know them better... just go to our staff page http://realitychangers.org/about/staff and click on our pictures to reveal some fun facts about our journeys.

Lastly, we're working on some special announcements for the upcoming school year... can't wait to share them with you!

Until then,
