Christmas Greetings to you and yours!

While the commercial side of Christmas seems at times to be spiraling out of control, it is our hope that the spirit of Christmas still holds a place dear to your heart. It is the spirit of peace on earth and goodwill toward men. A time when we give to those less fortunate, a time when we are thoughtful of others, a time when it is more blessed to give than to receive...

Not just at Christmas time, but all the year through, we are wishing you and yours an abundance of God's blessing! May you remain safe and healthy throughout the season. Have a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!

 Success in Weight Loss
The holiday season brings us a variety of new things, including a few extra pounds. We soon find that all those holiday dinners have had a "weighty" affect on our waistlines! Losing weight is one of our nation's top ten New Year's goals, but many times it's difficult to know where to begin. Fortunately, many are finding  weight loss success with the hCG Diet.

The hCG diet is a weight loss protocol that has helped thousands of overweight people to lose an estimated 1 to 3 lbs per day while modifying their metabolism and eating habits for long term results.  A 500 calorie a day diet also known as the VLCD (very low calorie diet), is combined with a minimal intake of hCG.  It's a completely natural hormone that is created in laboratories and works as it raises the body's metabolic rate while using stored fat for energy.  The result is significant fat loss in a very short period of time..

What is hCG?

hCG stands for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, a hormone naturally produced by the placenta in pregnant women and almost completely controls the metabolic function through the hypothalamus throughout the pregnancy.  Contrary to popular belief however, the hCG used in the Hcg diet protocols is a variation of the hCG form used for fertility treatments, and in a much smaller dose.  All hCG used for medical purposes  is natural, but created in laboratories from sterile cells.  It is NOT extracted from women or animal urine- a common misconception.

Why the 500 calorie diet-VLCD (very low calorie diet)?

hCG causes your hypothalamus to mobilize the fat out of  fat storage locations in your body so that it's available for use.  While you are only consuming 500 calories, your hypothalamus is continually releasing the fat stored in your body into your bloodstream.  Because of this, your body is actually operating on thousands of calories a day.  This results in your body using thousands of calories of fat from your body each day, and the potential loss of 1 to 2 lbs of fat or more, per day.

Will I be hungry on 500 calories per day?

It is common for mild hunger during the first few days, however this will pass and by the 2nd week, you will find even very tiny servings, to be completely satisfying.  This is partly due to your hypothalamus adjusting your metabolic rate, but largely due to the amount of calories circulating in your system from the fat being released.  It is common that hCG dieters feel as though they are stuffing themselves in order to reach that 500 calorie limit!

Will I gain the weight back after the HCG Diet?

After the hCG diet, not only will you have lost physical weight, former hCG Dieters also report a change for the better in appetite, and a natural course of modified eating behavior.  They also report this as being an ideal situation for easily transitioning into a healthy relationship with food.

With all of these changes and experiences, the hCG Diet is the perfect opportunity to adopt that healthy lifestyle to maintain your weight.

There is no reason you should gain your weight back, as long as you have replaced any former negative eating and inactive lifestyle habits with new, healthy perspectives on food and exercise. Most post-hcg dieters find a minimum amount of daily activity is sufficient to maintaining their hCG weight loss goal. A minimum amount of exercise is recommended not only for weight maintenance, but also for the added health benefits.  Recommended activities include:  Yoga, 20 minutes of cardio, or any number of activities you may enjoy, that gets your heart moving.  With your hypothalamus "reset", your metabolism will reflect these differences.   You should be able to eat moderately without feeling the need to overeat.

Cerec Crown  One Visit CEREC Crowns

Imagine a dental practice where you can go and have your new false tooth made and fitted during a single visit. This is what CEREC technology has made possible!

The benefits of CEREC technology are available to you at Boyett Health Services.

We are currently the only Dental practice within a 50 mile radius that offers CEREC Dentistry.

What is CEREC?
CEREC is a revolutionary system that enables your dentist to design, fabricate and fit a new crown, veneer, onlay or inlay in a single visit, a procedure that would normally take at least two weeks, if not more!

The ceramic blocks come in a wide variety of shades and colours, and your tooth will be selected to match your surrounding teeth. Once the crown or veneer has been milled, the dentist may characterise it and stain it to match your surrounding teeth, before either polishing it or glazing it in a furnace. Your new restoration will then be cemented into place onto your prepared tooth.

What are the benefits of CEREC?
There are several advantages to having treatment with CEREC over conventional, laboratory-made restorations:

Everything is carried out in a single visit - you only need to visit the dentist once - take one day away from your work or life to have the procedure - instead of the usual two or three visits.

Only one set of local anaesthetic injections - since the entire procedure can be carried out in a short period of time, you only need to have one lot of injections.

Your dentist is in complete control of the final result - since the crown or veneer is designed and fabricated from start to finish by your dentist, he/she has total control over how it will look and fit, whereas a crown made in a laboratory is under the control of the technician who hasn't even seen the patient.

No temporary restorations - if you have lab-made veneers, you would require temporary veneers during the wait for your new teeth. These have been known to fall off and cause problems, which is a step that is omitted with CEREC restorations.

How does this CEREC technology work?
Your dentist will prepare your tooth in the normal way he/she would before fitting a crown or a veneer. At this point, instead of using "dental putty" to take an impression of your tooth, a digital image is taken using a special camera. This image is then converted into a 3D computerised model of your tooth, which is used as a guide to design your new restoration. Once your dentist is happy with the newly designed tooth, this data is sent to an onsite milling machine, which fabricates your new tooth from a high-quality ceramic block. The milling process can take anywhere from as little as 6 minutes to 30 minutes depending on the exact technology and complexity of the tooth.

suboxone Suboxone for Opiate Addiction

Do you know someone who is dealing with an opiate addiction (pain pill and heroin addiction)?  Maybe you yourself have a problem with the abuse of prescription pain medications? There is hope for you and your loved ones. Suboxone (buprenorphine with naloxone) is currently available for the maintenance treatment of opioid addiction. Suboxone treatment is intended for use in adults and adolescents more than 16 years of age who have agreed to be treated for addiction.

Suboxone has recently become the drug of choice instead of methadone in the treatment of opiate addiction. Suboxone use is less rigidly controlled than methadone because it has a lower potential for abuse and is less dangerous in an overdose.

Suboxone is a private, in-office alternative to treatment with methadone. In sharp contrast to methadone, Suboxone can be prescribed and taken on an outpatient basis, meaning you only have to see the doctor when a refill is due; there is no longer any need to stand in line daily at the Methadone clinic. Also, most methadone patients report that the methadone isn't much less addictive than the opiates from which they were detoxified with the methadone; often, patients find that their methadone doses escalate in much the same fashion as did their opiates.

Opioid dependence is a chronic relapsing medical condition that requires long-term treatment and patient support. In addition, many of these intravenous drug users share syringes and needles, a practice that can lead to the transmission of serious blood-borne infections including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B and hepatitis C.

Currently opiate dependence treatments like methadone can be dispensed only in a few centers that focus in addiction treatment. There are not enough addiction treatment clinics to assist all patients seeking treatment. Suboxone is the first narcotic drug available under the Drug Abuse Treatment Act (DATA) of 2000 for the treatment of opiate dependence that can be prescribed by a physician. Hopefully, this advance in therapeutics will provide more patients the opportunity to access treatment.

Suboxone Prescription

Only those physicians who have approval from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) are able to start in-office treatment and provide prescriptions for ongoing medication. The Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) maintains an active database to help patients locate qualified doctors.

Route of Administration

Suboxone is available as a tablet which is always administered sublingually. The pill is placed underneath the tongue until it is fully dissolved. Swallowing or sucking on the pill does not offer any therapeutic benefit. When placed underneath the tongue, the pill dissolves and is absorbed in 10 -20 minutes.

Suboxone treatment is generally done under medical supervision. During the induction phase, one is taught how to properly take the medications and dose adjustments are also done during this phase. One is usually started on the smallest dose until the best therapeutic effect is obtained. Once the ideal dose is obtained, the individual is seen about once a month and prescriptions can generally be available from the same physician.

Maintenance Therapy

Although Suboxone can be used for detoxification, its intended use is for maintenance. The ideal candidate for maintenance therapy with Suboxone is an older individual who has previously been on drugs but now has a job and wants a stable lifestyle. The individual previously has failed detoxification and wants to live a simple life without the daily cravings of his previous addiction. The majority of past drug users immediately adjust to Suboxone as the cravings disappear immediately and a smoother life style are accessible.

Is Suboxone addicting?

Unlike opiates (pain pills, heroin), long-term use of Suboxone does not cause detrimental changes to the brain. There is a mild physical dependence that develops, but only in the sense that the Suboxone must be discontinued gradually to avoid withdrawal symptoms. When done properly, most Suboxone discontinuations go very smoothly with no withdrawal symptoms.

Suboxone has a very low abuse potential because of the "ceiling effect" of the medication: Once a certain dose is reached (for most patients 16 milligrams per day), taking more medication does not provide any additional benefits. Also, Suboxone does not cause euphoria like that associated with opiate use.

The ingredients in Suboxone include Buprenorphine, which is the active ingredient, and Naloxone (Narcan). The intention of adding naloxone to the formulation is to deter intravenous misuse and reduce the symptoms of opiate dependence. When the medication is taken as directed, the Buprenorphine prevents opiate withdrawals and cravings and the Naloxone is inactive; however if the medication is abused (e.g., if the patient attempts to grind the medication and use it intravenously), the Naloxone will become activated and will send a patient into severe opiate withdrawals, thus making Suboxone a safe medication choice for patients with a history of intravenous drug abuse.

Cautions

Intravenous use of Suboxone usually in combination with benzodiazepines or other CNS depressants has been associated with significant respiratory depression and death. Suboxone has the potential for abuse and produces dependence of the opioid type with a milder withdrawal syndrome than full agonists.

Childhood Dentistry

Doing the right thing for our children is the duty of any responsible parent. Many parents however, are confused about when to start routine dental check ups for a child. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that prophylactic (preventative) dental visits begin at age 12 months. Cleanings and exams should occur every 6 months after your child's first birthday. This strategy is very important because it allows your child to build a relationship with the dental hygienist, the dental staff, and the dentist. The child also has the opportunity to become aquainted with the dental office under pleasant terms, and stress free conditions. He/she can be desensitized to the delivery of dental care at their own pace without having to be pressured into treatment of a problem when they are afraid. Over time, your child will develop a certain comfort at the dental office.

Tips to help your child avoid fear of dental care:

1. Start brushing your child's gums and tongue early in infancy (before teeth have errupted) to condition teeth to the sensation of brushing and working in the mouth.

2. Don't allow adults or older children to tease your child and build fear by talking about scary aspects of dental treatment (shots, drills and other unpleasantries).

3. Don't bribe your child with promises of rewards if they cooperate at the dentist. Children are often smarter than we realize. A bribe may be a signal to the child that "the dental office must be a bad place if mother feels that she needs to make a deal with me".

4. Start getting your child aquainted with the dental office and staff before treatment is needed. It will save everyone a great deal of stress, especially your child.
