What GYC Taught Me
 By: Kris Rawls
Over the past three years GYC has taught me many different things. Every year brought forth a new lesson and changed my overall personality. My first year in GYC I volunteered at every project, and I came to most of the trainings that were scheduled. This was the year that I began to like volunteering because I enjoyed helping people. My second year in GYC was when I decided to take on the role as Training Director. I became more responsible this year because I had a job to do outside of school and I had to show up at meetings. I also learned how to manage my time better this year. In school I had several AP classes that required a lot of work and studying, and I also had many other extracurricular activities in school to participate in. In order to get everything I needed finished, I had to manage my time so that I was able to do so. This year I became a more social and outgoing person. As the Chairman I was required to speak to a lot of people who I didn't know, and I was required to speak publicly quite frequently. I used to be a shy and timid person but now I am not afraid of talking to people. GYC has made me the person that I am today and I will never forget the place that helped me get to where I am today.
Recognition and Installation Night
 By: Hilary Chan
This event, commonly referred to as RIN, is an opportunity to recognize our volunteers, who have contributed greatly to the Greensboro Youth Council during the past year. Also invited to this dinner, we have community sponsors and P&R commissioners. Last but not least, our parents and friends have also been a big part of this successful year and they are invited to witness our recognition and installation.

RIN will be held at Emerald Event Center on May 27th at 6:30pm. Durng the recognition dinner, we will announce the award winners. Most of them are entitled to a certain amount of scholarships depending on the award. At the end of the night, the 2009-2010 Executive Board members will pass the torch to the 2010-2011 newly elected Executive Board members with the lighting of the candles ritual.
New Fashions 2010

Summer is around the corner and to keep up with this season's ever-changing trends, here are some style tips to keep you hot all summer long.

Silly Bandz-

There is a Facebook group called "I remember when rubber bands used to be a circle." Nowadays, rubber bands come in dinosaurs, hot dogs, and magic wands. These colorful, bendy, glow-in-the-dark bands are called "Silly Bandz." Originally from New Jersey, these "bandz", first worn by elementary students, grew so rapidly in popularity that stores such as Walgreens and Toys&Co can hardly keep in shipments without selling out. Silly Bandz are fun to wear, whether it is to school or the gym.

High-waisted Skirts-

A blast from the past, high-waisted skirts are making a comeback. They come in floral prints and in bright colors with geometric shapes. High-waisted skirts look cute when paired with a solid color tee with the option of leggings.

Skinnies-

"Skinnies", also known as skinny jeans, are tight-fit, slim leg jeans that are very versatile. Once not-so popular a few years ago, skinnies have taken over by storm. With skinny jeans, you can dress them up or down. For the guys, they can be paired with sneakers and a graphic tee. For the ladies, skinnies can be paired with a nice tunic shirt and heels.

What I Plan to do as Chair
By: Victor Ngo

Hello, my name is Victor Ngo and I plan to serve as the chair of the Greensboro Youth Council for the 2010-11 schoolyear. First of all, I would like to congratulate my fellow newly elected Excutive Board members. I look forward to a nice year.

Now, what do I plan to do as Chair of GYC? Well there are some standard answers to that question such as leading the council and running the organization. But, contrary to popular belief, I will work as little as possible. I, instead, plan to have as much fun as possible, and thus I will establish, through my chairmanship, a difference between work and having fun. I want to make GYC a fun place to get work done. Of course there is much work to be done. That work shall be done, but not without the presence of a good time.

Again, I look forward to an exciting year with all of the council.

Thank You,
Victor Ngo
