Hunt appointed to three committees and interagency council

"...participation on Elder Affairs is a natural for any representative from Barnstable County, but also one I embrace as the son of an 85-year-old mother of three in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's."

Sandwich, MA - Randy Hunt, state representative for the 5th Barnstable District on Cape Cod, announced his appointment to three House/Senate joint committees:

Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy

Joint Committee on Mental Health and Substance Abuse

Joint Committee on Elder Affairs

"I appreciate the opportunity to serve on each of these committees. I spoke extensively during my campaign about the pervasive problem we're suffering on Cape Cod related to prescription and illegal drug abuse and its tie to the vast majority of breaking and entering offenses and violent crimes committed in Barnstable County." Hunt continued, "I look forward to implementing the recommendations of the OxyContin and Heroin Commission and developing further ways to combat this hugely destructive problem we face statewide.

"I am also fortunate to have been appointed to the Interagency Council on Substance Abuse and Prevention, a Lt. Governor-led group that brings representatives of a number of state agencies together to coordinate efforts to curb substance abuse and promote programs to steer young people away from addictive substances."

On his appointment to the Joint Committee on Elder Affairs, Hunt offered "Cape Cod has an aging population and participation on Elder Affairs is a natural for any representative from Barnstable County, but also one I embrace as the son of an 85-year-old mother of three in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's."

Hunt will also serve on the Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy Committee. "The Cape's issues in the way of wind turbines, Mirant's struggling canal power plant, herbicides used under transmission lines, and many others make this committee's work critical to our area," Hunt said of this appointment that he lobbied for during the organization of the legislature for this biennial session.

Hunt has committed to keeping his district informed through his website and blog, both of which are easily found by googling "Randy Hunt." His blog features polls on various issues and encourages readers to air their opinions and suggestions. "An open channel of communication is essential for good government," Hunt said, mentioning that his email address for state representative-related correspondence is Randy.Hunt@MAHouse.gov.
