RE: The Business Representative

Business Representatives are usually part-time resources.  With today's lean organizations and highly specialized work forces, it is sometime impossible to 'back fill' a resource to carry out a project.

Being able to work with part-time resources is essential and often requires give-and-take in terms of how long assignments may take.

For example, asking an accountant to test an AP data entry screen during month-end week isn't realistic.  Or, asking a maintenance planner during shutdown planning that you need 2 days of his/her time to review some design specs, forget it.

It is important to understand team member's availability and to work within those constraints.

Greetings!

Well
AJAE Consulting Ltd, summer has finally come.  I am really enjoying our backyard, especially in the morning doing my work before the sun comes up.  Many of you know me as an early riser; that's when I'm most productive and can think the clearest.

Where is your favorite place to work and think?

Sincerely,
Robert Schulz

Training: How, Not What

Software training far too often focuses on 'What' the software is capable of doing rather than 'How' one should use it.
AJAE Consulting Ltd
The most effective training is one that is geared directly to an organization's business processes, which ideally have been optimized for the new software.

This requires much preparation ahead of time.

Documenting work flows and capturing the right amount of detail for a new user can be staggering, but this preparation pays off in the end when users can take away a training manual that describes 'how' they are to use the new software.

Fortunately, work flow test scripts also help with this and often, I've taken test scripts and morphed them into training documents to save time and ensure that all aspects of t
he business process are covered.

Did I miss something? What are some of your training preparation experiences?

Project Team Notable Quotes

" In the past, it was always some faceless clerk that fixed the data errors later on; that's not how it will be going forward" Scott

Improving data accuracy as well as process efficiency are common goals in information technology projects.  Improvements in both data accuracy and business process efficiency may be realized by correcting data errors sooner than later.  Ensuring that systems have data validation checks at the time of data entry is an important first step in reaching these goals.
