Inspiring Career Change Example
Louise was a talented young professional seeing that she could achieve more in her career and design the life she wanted, it was support working out how, that she needed. Here's how we helped her.
Career evolution from public to private sector - Louise
Louise had over 13 years' experience working in the public sector in mental health and wellbeing service development, with ambitions to be self-employed. We helped her to see what her specific skills and qualities were, defined services and how to market them as an independent consultant to the private sector. We helped her restructure her CV to enable the repositioning of her talents in the eyes of her target employers. She successfully achieved high profile policy consultancy work and contracts in the private sector and public sector. We elicited from Louise what was really important to her, values and motivations, and she took a sabbatical travelling to experience different cultures and to learn more about health systems outside of the UK, which would also feed back into her professional specialism.
On returning from travelling midst downturn, we helped her to refocus in changed market conditions and redefine her long-term career vision for herself, with the outcome being her investing in her continual professional development to do a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Strategy and Innovation at Said Business School, University of Oxford, building her niche as a healthcare policy and strategy specialist, able to build partnerships between the public and private sectors.
"Transitioning from the public to private sector can feel daunting and Rachel helped me to see how marketable I am, to define my niche and target audiences and how to network and market myself to achieve my career ambitions. She also helped me increase my self-awareness about what I really wanted, see actual and perceived blocks in the way of success and how to overcome them. She reminds me of my achievements when I forget and has introduced me to some really useful contacts and resources. It is great to know that she is there for my next career crossroads and I know she always thinks about how she can help me. Coaching is a great investment in your prospects, even more so in competitive market conditions, and I am glad I made it."
