Why is managing your
stakeholders important?
  Execs supporting each other

Wanting to progress is something that many people aspire to. For some it is status, others remuneration, and others a new challenge or interesting work. Often we cannot achieve what we aspire to without relying on the support, decisions or actions of others.

Knowing who the stakeholders are in your success and having a strategy for each of them helps increase the likelihood of getting what you want. Influencing, emotional intelligence and time management are all key ingredients for stakeholder management. A stakeholder can be a recruitment consultant, your boss, a decision maker or someone else.

Some people naturally like helping others to succeed, some are threatened by it, others ambivalent. Whether you are employed and want a promotion, unemployed and want a job or self employed and want clients, you will have stakeholders who will enhance or hinder you.  It is important to have a clear goal for what you want and think about what is in it for them, the benefits and objections that need to be overcome.

Five tips to manage your stakeholders

Set goals

1) Plan time regularly to focus on stakeholder management

2) Keep a file about your stakeholders recording key information e.g. preferred communication method, hobbies, motivation etc

3) Segment your stakeholders from negative e.g. blockers to positive e.g. champions and create a targeted strategy

4) Create a S M A R T goal and plan to achieve it

5) Put yourself in their shoes and see yourself and the goal you want to achieve through their eyes

Energise Testimonials

"I worked with Rachel earlier this year when I was going through a major career change and in the process of setting up my new business. She knew exactly the kinds of issues I was dealing with and her vast experience in this area meant we could quickly focus on those areas which needed most attention for me. It's great working with someone who can offer you the perspective you need and thanks to her I was able to make a smooth transition to my new career and take with me practical marketing and networking tools to get my business off the ground. Thank you Rachel for giving Digital Dragonfly its wings to fly!"
Francesca Geens
