Is your vocation safe in the fast changing world of work?
|
A downturn is one of the best possible times to review your career. Yes really. Why? So that you're on the front foot when the economy picks up. The world of work will never be the same again and contracts, part time working and freelance are becoming more commonplace - there are a shortage of full time jobs, and jobs generally. Employers can no longer carry the risk of paying full time headcount to the same extent as they have in the past. This means that you need to take more responsibility for your career, skills and marketing yourself, than ever before.
Half the people I work with on career change fell into their career by accident. For the other 50% it was a conscious choice, but not necessarily a career they now enjoy or is really 'them'. The careers advice we get at school and college is limited and this and the support from parents, if we get any, is influenced by their own attitudes and experiences, which are different from ours. These days, it is not just about whether we enjoy our work, it is also about whether the career is a safe bet with long term potential what with the changes in technology and the emerging BRIC countries champing at the bit. Are you in the right vocation for you and are you 100% clear about its prospects as a vocation, medium and long term?
Whether you are in work or out of work, taking stock is wise. Reviewing if you are in the right career or not is one of the most important decisions you will ever make and a good thing to do now so you are in a strong position when we emerge from the downturn. To fail to check if you are in the right career is a bit like ignoring the fact that you need a pension for future security or neglecting your health. It has huge ramifications on wellbeing, success and happiness tomorrow as well as today. Keeping a close eye on work and jobs trends and data as well as the impact of technology on your career path and prospects is a must. Many people and companies have been caught unawares in the downturn that their skills and job have passed their shelf life.
We created our career change e course to enable people to evaluate step by step what work and environment best suits them. It helps you identify insights about yourself strategically yet practically, define a clear career goal and create a step by step plan. You will also have more clarity about your unique skills and how they are transferable, identify and overcome blocks about marketing yourself, plus greater awareness which will give you benefits in many areas of your life for years to come.
In our changing and uncertain times, isn't it a good idea to be proactive rather than reactive? Don't risk being left behind, or like many people stick your head in the sand. Invest in a more secure and fulfilling work future in the knowledge that you have checked what prospects your job and career have in the fast changing world of work.
You can 'pay as you go' month by month over 10 months, or download the whole e course in one go - you choose.
