Are you passionate about your work?
|
Do you love your work? If you don't, what are you doing about it?
Doing work that you are passionate about is really important, not just because of the hours we spend working, but because we are going to be working for longer with retirement getting later to fund our own pensions. If you are not doing work that you love, taking action now is a sound investment made early to create a more enjoyable working life. The majority of people fall into their careers and don't enjoy what they do. People believe that any career change will be radical and painful, so they avoid it. It doesn't have to be like this. A career change can be a small step e.g. evolving your role, it doesn't have to be going to the bottom of the ladder and starting all over again.
We feel passionate about our work when it plays to our strengths, when it is for a cause we feel strongly about and when it gives us what is important to us, so we feel more fulfilled. The starting point is to evaluate your current job and career to date; what motivates you, what your values are, your skills and strengths etc. It's only by putting the pieces of the jigsaw together that you can know if your work is right for you, or if there is a vital piece missing.
